So... anyone else notice it takes a really long time to prepare the desktop when you make a new user account?
And the start menu freezes when you hover over something with a description.

Does this actually use less memory than Windows XP? I could try slapping this to my older computer...

Wow... now that's pretty impressive.

I should show my Windows 7 more love.

I've actually been using 7 a lot more lately.
Only because Fallout 3 doesn't work on Vista...

I have this installed on my Laptop (dual boot w/ XP) but haven't used it much due to laziness (hey lets find programs to install). I wonder if my lappy can run HL2 Episode 1.

i haven't installed windows 7 on my desktop, and i amn't likely to do so. but i could install it on my laptop. it's supposed to be less power/hdd space hungry than vista.

See? Windows 7 is the OS we actually deserved instead of Vista.

That said, I wouldn't get it unless I was sure that it wasn't one of those devious "Oh, you're only RENTING your OS from us!" style tricks.

I should get around to installing a few apps and using it for a bit.

(+/- test out the OpenGL acceleration in VBox)

Edit: the start "menu"'s "shut down" button looks bizarre with Windows Classic. By "bizarre" I mean ti doesn't even use whatever font you have set.

I don't have the means to install and test it out right now, but it looks like it's doing pretty good (a lot better than Vista, at least).. I'm already considering switching to it at some point. Or at least doing dual-boot together with XP or something.

My computer probably won't be able to handle it, but I was thinking about getting a better/more stable one by the time Windows 7 comes out anyway, so I might as well start saving up some time soon

The betas are done with Microsoft...

No more betas. Release candidate is next...which is unusual for M$.

Apparently there's a Post-Beta that got leaked... I'll have to look into that.

Can I get a size check on Win7's ISO? I had a friend download it for me, and... it's about 380MB. I doubt it's the right size, but I'm screwed anyway due to lack of a DVD drive. I guess I'll grab one sometime... :/

2.44GB ISO for the 32-bit. 3.15GB for the 64-bit.

Get a torrent of it. Direct downloading failed for me too.

Direct download was pretty fine for me.

Guess I was lucky.

If you have a fairly decent transfer rate on broadband (i.e. 200+ KB/s constant), then you'll be fine.

If you're like us that can maintain no better than 60-80 (because I can't get better than 300KB/s burst speeds due to wireless) it has a tendency to time out on M$'s site. This is has been a commonplace thing for many downloading it.

It seems like Microsoft is already working on the first release candidate builds of the Windows 7 operating system. The recently leaked build string 7048.winmain_win7rc1.090211-1625. The string is not only hinting at the release candidate 1 (rc1) but also information about the current build (7048) and the date and time the build has been compiled (11.02.2009 at 16:25).

It is expected that the release candidate build of Windows 7 will be publicly available in the next 1-2 months and replace the Windows 7 Beta at that time.
