Not really no, I made a new topic in order to bring discussion upon a old game in order to stir up activity.

In any case, I find this game to be quite fun. Although it does hep I installed a few mods to fix a few thousand bugs, and also turned off the damn grass and wind.

I personally enjoyed Morrowind more.. And yea, mods are a must. (which is why I think I enjoyed Morrowind more, it was a bit more modder-friendly and had huge range of mods already available to it when Oblivion came out and is still growing today.)

Not to say Oblivion was bad by any means.. I spent a fairly good deal of time playing it when it was released, and had quite a bit of fun. It is just.. the dialogue system felt greatly watered-down in comparison to Morrowind, the races lost some of their charm (Argonian and Khajiit lost their beast-legs, Dunmer lost their gritty dark voices, etc..), and as said already - it wasn't as modder friendly. The game seemed to be built first for the console, second for the PC (which was apparent by the larger clunkier UI it has).. and I think this greatly hurt it in many ways, which is a shame..

Mind you, if they had just implemented most of the features of the Morrowind engine into Oblivion's engine.. The modding community would have picked up the rest of the slack, and I'd probably greatly favor it over its predecessor. (As Oblivion did make some improvements, the graphics only being the most obvious among them.)

I killed Oblivion. Got all the achievements for that game on the 360, despite the glitches and bugs that pissed me off.

While fighting the final boss from Silvering Isles, my character got stuck in a statue. I killed the guy, but now my character is stuck there.

This .. though I didn't really like Oblivion at all. Compared to Morrowind, everything seemed kind of boring. The game felt really empty too .. I was running for minutes at a time without seeing anything besides an odd deer (which in turn would run away from me anyway).

Eh. I don't really know what it was, but something about Morrowind's gameplay kept me more interested than Oblivion. On the other hand, the graphics were pretty beautiful :3.

Yay, a topic I can talk a lot about in!

I've never played any of the other Elder Scroll games, but I still picked up and played Oblivion. I liked it a lot, but there were a few things that bugged me. One of the things was the way leveling up works. I had no idea what the mechanics were behind level ups, so I wound up gaining lots of level ups while I was chatting it up with the locals. When it came time for me to head out into the wilderness, I would often find myself getting into a lot of trouble. Now, I like a little challenge in my games, but this wasn't the satisfying challenge.

Sometime later, I restarted the game as a new character. This time, I had a few mods to go with it, including a mod that would have me not worrying about number crunching to get a good level up, and I learned how the level up system worked. I picked skills for my character that I knew I wouldn't be using as main skills, and thus I slowed down the level ups as well as the awkward "I'm weaker than everyone just because I spent a little time talking with people". I enjoyed the game a lot more, as well as got into an odd glitch that caused me to go down an awesome role playing path.

And then I put the game down for a bit. Months later, I had that Oblivion itch again, and I picked it up again. This time, I grabbed some more mods, one of which was an overhaul with monsters. Martigan's Monster Mod made playing Oblivion a new game for me. It was no longer just seeing a deer running around like every 20 minutes. I was seeing groups of deer every so often when I go to wooded areas, with packs of wolves occasionally showing up to get their venison fix. I was more afraid of heading into ancient ruins because I don't like the undead, and there were more of them and they sometimes came back to life if I didn't turn them to gold (another mod). I was able to make my own arrows to counter the larger amount of creatures that often showed up (I ran into a cave with 10-20 goblins charging at me! Fun times taking them all down). And then I finally beat the main story, like after a year of having the game.

And I eventually stopped playing again.

And then I had that itch again. I grabbed more mods, including one that made stats (for both player and enemies) affect weapons/armor/magic more noticeable (mages were finally able to take me down) and another for unique landscapes, which made exploring much more enjoyable, and actually let you know where you were if by just looking around. I also cranked the difficulty up to max. I had even more fun than I had before.

Moral of this rambling post: Mods make this game. Well, in my opinion, of course.

I kinda wish I could get back to it, but it's hard to do so when the controls for Fallout 3 (I play with a gamepad. Don't look at me like that) were so much better, and the game was sooo much less finicky in Fallout 3.

I sure do miss magic and greenery, though
