Well... it certainty is an interesting take on the idea, and is oddly not a carbon copy of guitar hero.

It is more of a mix of DDR and 2 strum bars, so it is -really- hard (unless you cheat a little). (Or I suck. )

A video~

How interesting. Looks kind of hard but I'm sure with a little practice it'd get easier. Still, pretty neat idea.

I have a habit of pressing on my desk when something like this plays. I think I started messing up around the 1:30 mark...not sure.

Drag's Post #944
I like how they actually tried to go for the oldschool NES factor, with the sound effects, and the font and such.

The arrows on the buttons need to be more discernable though, I think it's a major thing that's holding it back.

You don't suck, this is hard. Much harder than DDR, and a little harder than Guitar Hero. Mainly because it's an NES controller, and thusly two strums. Also, because it uses an NES controller graphic, you'd think when playing on an emulator to move your left hand to the directions, because you grew up lie that - but no, keyboards have to be baackwards in that aspect. =p

We also recommend using a gamepad!

(This game is just too hard with a keyboard!)

Man, I don't know how anyone can play games with a keyboard. I've tried it many, many times and I just fail miserably. I guess I have a lot more dexterity in my thumbs than my fingers.

I even use JoyToKey to play games that don't natively support gamepads, like Within a Deep Forest. I doubt I would have been able to beat it otherwise.

Don't emulators include the feature of re-mappable keys? I would assume you can simply fix it.

And there's no way this game is harder on a keyboard. Some people play platformers on a keyboard.

I play platformers on a keyboard. <_<
It's not that hard.

Of course, Guitar Hero (which this essentially is) was made to be played with a guitar controller. Else it starts getting impossible. (Unless you're using a PS controller and are playing on Medium. (Shoulder buttons.))

To that end, you can always take what I do;

W/R (L/R)
SEDF (YXBA)
IJKL (ULDR)
VB (start/select)

All you'd really have to do is swap IKJL (+ UO) for SEDF (+ WR) and you'd have a NES-like layout

I don't see why people would assign their keys to the opposite of what they'd be on a normal controller; WASD/6548 for the win.

I do it because it's what I used since I started playing on a keyboard. Of course, when games use the mouse, I switch my directional controls to WASD, but still.

Watching this was just kind of... bleh. Not good.

It'd work better with the DDR layout and only one button instead of two.

The way it's coded, you can just keep all the buttons pressed down, and strum when needed.

I think.

Kind of like that one thing you made. Though more of a "game" than a distraction.

Yeah, except that was literally one button and had awkward timing (necessitated by the way it was done).

Oh my god, Kattwah's layout works!
--------------------------------

To be honest, I think I care more about how awesome that song sounds in 8-bit, rather than the game itself. It looks pretty good, but I'd gladly just take a ROM that contained that track alone. Heh.
