So basically same rules apply for this as for the music thread. Try to elaborate a little.

I'm reading:
Inkdeath - Cornelia Funke
I dunno, something about it just makes me want to read for hours on end. Surprisingly well written, even if the English version was translated from the original German.

Throne of Jade - Naomi Novik
Part of the Temeraire series, which involve the Napoleonic wars if dragons existed. Really enjoying it.

I'm reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for like the 7th time. I have a severe lack of new books at my disposal.

And for the hell of it. On the comic/manga side I am reading:

-Planet Hulk/World War Hulk crossover
-Gantz

Every so often I go back and read a crossover or a manga series from start to end (or latest current issue).

Obviously, the manga that I follow weekly and monthly are not posted.

I just read Speaker for the Dead a couple of days ago, since I recently read Ender's Game and I saw Speaker for the Dead for like 6 bucks at the coffee shop/bar where I was getting drunk. I enjoyed Ender's Game immensely, but I think Speaker for the Dead was even more amazing. Probably due to the increased interpersonal relations, and how awesome Ender is.

Now I have to go find Xenocide.

NOT OVER YET
I decided to start reading Magical Mystery Tours: My Life with the Beatles after putting it off for over a month--got it for Christmas. It's basically Tony Bramwell, a childhood friend who was literally with the band every step of the way, chronicling the lives of the Beatles throughout the years, starting with their childhood in the late 40s/early 50s.

John Lennon is especially interesting, seeing how is mischievous, rebellious, sexual youth contrasts his (and Yoko's!) peace activist years, later on in his life.

In short, the book's great so far, and I look forward to reading it more.

Resurrecting this thread because I just read some sweet books.

I read the first three books of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series: Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation. They set up a great sci-fi universe, a good story, and a great idea to go on: psychohistory.

Psychohistory is basically a new branch of mathematical analysis of society that allows one to predict the future, to a certain statistical level. So the setup is that the progenitor of this science forsees the decline of the Empire and following that, 30 millennia of barbarism. So he sets up these Foundations at opposite ends of the galaxy as part of his grand plan to shorten the period of barbarism to only one millennium.

I finished reading John Grisham's newest, entitled 'The Advocate'. This was on a long train journey, so I could totally concentrate on the book. I suppose it was worth the money.

I'm reading Catch-22. It's exceptionally good, except that if I read too much at one time, I feel like I might be going a little crazy.

I'm reading a play called "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde as well as The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, both for English classes at school. Wilde is hilarious and Faulkner fucking sucks. But I'm not done with either one yet, so the jury is still out.

Once summer starts and I can read books that I want to read, I'm going to finally get to Gone with the Wind. It is pathetic that I've never read it.

Wow...at least you're getting decent shit. Importance of Being Earnest was one of the few 'older' things I liked reading up on. Faulkner can die.

Worse would be Hemingway...but I also tire of classics easy. :\

I remember reading that for my English class one year. Good stuff.

Yeah, I'm liking it thus far. All of the drama I've read this semester has been enjoyable, so I can't complain about that class. It's my other English class that's making me read crap like Faulkner (and Hemingway, but thank sweet baby jesus that unit is over).

See...this is why if I ever have to go back and do Engrish again (I passed out of 2nd year classes with As fine) I would have a Creative Writing class or something.

Otherwise I would be bored shitless with reading comprehension or going over HOW YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO ANALYSE OR WRITE A SENTENCE AND AAHAGHAHGHasdfasdf...

I hate restrictive classes like that. :\ I had plenty of better times on my senior year of HIGH SCHOOL than I did most of my scruelwork in college.

Minus Philosophy. I will say that kicked ass. That and maybe the first sem I took of objected oriented programming.

The English classes that most all students have to take suck. They're just survey courses and GE courses that feel like high school English all over again. I'm taking two English classes this semester, one of those and one for my major. I love the major one and I can survive in the other one because as boring and patronizing as it is, it's easy.

Hopefully by this time next year I'll be done with all of the non-major courses that I'm required to take.

Vampire Tapestry-
A book written about a vampire that's more biological than mystical. He doesn't have fangs, has a problem with romancing his prey and only drinks really pure blood. Really great stuff, especially in the face of Twilight. Things are getting a little nuts now that I'm almost at the end and I wasn't really crazy about one of the chapters that just described an opera until it was blue in the face. But, overall, pretty awesome.

Deadpool Classic-
Basically a compilation of Deadpool's first comics. LOVE IT. So funny, witty and interesting. They really worked to make Deadpool a three dimensional character, which I really appreciate in comics and don't really expect from Marvel.
