hi,

i'm working on an editor for NSMB. it's called NSMB Remaker.

i post it here because the General Project thread doesn't seem very suitable.

here are some screenshots:


starting to add graphics support! not perfect yet, it has some glitches, but it already shows some stuff acceptably.
the scrollbars are now functional, the task panel is a bit better, and the menu changed a bit.

infact, atm, the title saying "Coming soon!" is a bit early now as the editor is far from complete.

if you've ideas or suggestions for it, you're welcome to post them here!

Alright, I have a suggestion. Graphics support and camera control support! There's spots in NSMB where the camera won't move past a certain spot and stuff because it's scripted, I'd love to be able to control that.

Ah, you mean a scroll editor! SMILE as one of those, utilizing red, green, and blue scrolls on each 16x16 screen. Red scrolls prevent then camera from scrolling unless they are modified by touching Scroll PLMs in the area. Green and blue are similar, but green are better for vertical rooms and ceiling/floor doors. Anyways, back on track, I'm not sure how NSMB is set up but if you could get something like a scroll editor set up it could expand the level possibilities greatly.

hmm... i've looked at the source of the old Treeki's editor to find where are the graphics files, because on Treeki's docs it isn't said where these grahpics files are stored. the names of these files are really complicated! i need some time to figure out how they work.

but, happily, camera data is documented in Treeki's docs.

(i mean the docs available on Treeki's webpage... if he has more docs, it would be really nice of him to give me them)

btw, some news:
currently i have difficulties getting my ROM handling code working. extracting works fine, but re-inserting blows up the ROM when the file has a different size, plus LZ77 recompression doesn't work correctly. once i'll have these bugs solved i should be able to continue the editor.

more news:

hurray! re-inserting files doesn't destroy the ROM anymore! but i still have recompression issues.
as an example, i try decompressing and recompressing a palette, and well, the palette becomes completely destroyed.
i think the problem is from recompression as decompression is inspired from Treeki's editor and should work fine.

Hm, looks promising, but will it work properly on Vista? Treeki's was said to work, but it had problems finding a simple comdlg32.ocx thing.

normally, it should, as Vista is the OS i'm developing it on.
but, as it uses windows forms (managed C++), you'll need the .NET framework.

there's been a while since the last screenshot.
here's a new fresh one! i'm starting to code the graphics engine, but it isn't an easy thing.
the graphics engine can already render some stuff correctly, still.

well, infact atm the graphics engine can display simple items.
but it doesn't support repeating tiles (like flagpole) and diagonal items (like slopes) yet, and also pipes which are 3D textures.

Looking good.
Are you going to add in a viewing mode that doesn't show Graphics? 'Cause, I'm fine
With graphics being coloured blocks. I got used to it because of Treeki's NSMB
Level Editor.
