Without congressional action, all TV stations by law must stop broadcasting their programs in analog format Feb. 17.

After President Obama voiced support for a delay to the transition, congressional Democrats quickly moved to bring legislation forward.

The delay means that people who rely on over-the-air TV will have until June 12 to either buy a digital television or converter box, or subscribe to a cable or satellite TV service.

Not that I particularly mind... I'd rather see a lot more work go into this, because as it is now it's among the most unorganized bullshit I've ever seen.

MORE work?

They've been 'working' on this since the turn of the millenium...how much more time do they need?

It isn't "working" when you consider what they've allowed to transpire.

Nobody knows what the hell is going on any more and cable companies are using it as an excuse to spread bullshit about how they need to get a cable subscription, etc.

Not to mention I've read about it having a significantly smaller range than analog, so many people will still be getting left out.

Personally, I like how I can't see compression artifacts on analog stations.

(MPEG-4 has been around for ten years, WHY AREN'T WE USING IT? )

And it fails to pass...

Looks like nothing changed after all.

With a vote of 264-158, the House agreed to delay the DTV transition to June 12. The Senate voted last week for the delay, and President Obama is expected to sign it. The delay will help the millions of consumers whose coupons expired before the converters were even available, as well as the two million on a waiting list for the coupons.

Seems that it finally passed, though.
