Until I can get this radio turned off.

Aretha Franklin hurt my ears.

Yep we're still watching it. It's past 12 so he is now officially the president of the US.

Nope. The TV is broken and I really don't care enough to seek it out.

I'm got most of it via radio.

So yea. Liked it... Save for the racist benediction... Obama's speech was great though. He really is a natural orator.

I'll just tell you they shut down all routes to DC via VA. You could only get in through MD.

My brother-in-law who works in DC and lives in VA had to take today off because he was unable to get to work.

No shit...I about lost it at the end of that speech.

Still, the whole thing was 'ok' but I was under the impression that this was supposed to be some MASSIVE HISTORICAL THING and it just seemed like every presidential inauguration before it.

Over-hyped, I might add.

I watched it during Japanese class, and I laughed when he messed up while he was being sworn in. ^^

The speech was ok, and Aretha Franklin sounded terrible. (it seems that way with all live singers)

Almost all my classes are watching it all day...

(waste of time, the important stuff is past)

I'm not big on poetics either but...

...did anyone really get the poem by that one person before the benediction? I think it was Elizabeth Alexander. I didn't see any real meaning behind it.

The poem was... Who knows... How the fuck do you interpret that babble... It had nothing to do with the inauguration at all. All I heard were the campaign catch phrases shoved into pretty scenes... No. Scratch that. Half that shit wasn't even pretty. It honestly made no fucking sense.

I missed it, but I probably wouldn't have interpreted it any better.
And Aretha Franklin was awful.

My professor let our class go early so I ran over to the student lounge, grabbed lunch and watched the whole oath and speech. Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma sounded very nice playing violin and cello respectively. I didn't get to stay for this poem and "racist benediction" you all are mentioning, as I had a class at 12:30 I had to run to.

That actually surprised me that Yo-Yo Ma was part of the entourage. Out of everyone invited to a presidential election, I sure as hell didn't expect that.
