Who says computers don't make life easier!? Clearly, my lunch today was just as good as any other because of computers. Normally you re-heat the leftovers, but I re-heated it before biting into it the first time...

See, I recently packed my bags and moved from Davis Junction, IL to Puyallup, WA by way of Portland, OR, which amounts to about 2,200 miles. I put some money in a little account for generic expsnses and what-not, which is good, because I had a fuel pump issue on my car (and a short laundry list of other problems) once I got here that, at the end of the day, ended up costing me $1,131.17. Stupid old vehicles. But hey, I had the money, and I'd still have a few hundred leftover after that. Good deal!

The car's working great, so I go to Quiznos today at lunch. I like the food there; it's good stuff. I used to work at a Quiznos, and I can tell you that the corporate attitude of the franchise higher-ups really sucks... I mean, when's the last time you saw a Quiznos commercial on TV that didn't specifically point out Subway and say "We're better than them"? Well, that's just one of a long list of attitude problems they have, but since each individual Quiznos store is owned by a non-Quiznos operative and the food is good, I don't have any problem with going there if only to support the owners in their never-ending struggle against the powers that be. It's clearly a love-hate relationship, and I sure love my Classic Italian.

Large sandwich, small drink, $9.01. Swipe; declined. Wait, what? I have hundreds of dollars in this account and can't buy food for just nine of them!? I had to go all the way back to where I'm staying, grab a Jackson (didn't have any Hamiltons), drive all the way back (it's like 2 miles, man!) and pay for the food with cash instead. Got back and called the bank. "WTF, bank!?" I asked. They looked it up, and saw two transactions for $1,131.17, putting my balance in the negatives, which is not possible considering I specifically set up the account to decline any transaction that would make the account be overdrawn. Well, I guess that worked for the sandwich, but why am I paying for my car repairs twice? I called the car people, and they said it's the first time any problems have arisen, so the bank must know.

They looked at one transaction, which went through as intended. The other transaction said "Outstanding Authorization." The bank thinks that the car people probably started a transaction to determine if it would let me pay at all in the first place, but opened a second transaction to actually pay for the repairs. I'm reeeeeally glad at this point that I decided to run the card through as debit instead of credit, because it was my authorization that it was waiting for. If it didn't want my PIN, it'd have gone through as credit by the bank and I'd be in the hole by the time the transactions actually went through. But the bank decided to give me my money back, deleted that outstanding transaction, and now I'm good to go.

Had to put the sandwich in the microwave.

At least they refunded it without being a pain in the ass. Especially considering overdraft fees can kill you.

Wow. At least you got it taken care of and congrats on the reaction time. Something like that can never wait.

Looks like it was a double charge, which I have seen happen before.

Good that they did charge you those damn overdraft fees.

When I contacted the bank, the transaction from the car repairs hadn't actually gone through yet, which means the bank still saw me as having a whole kingdom's worth of riches in my account. Had I contacted them much later, something would have gone through and there may actually have been problems.

Lunch saved my life!

I would've shoved an exhaust pipe up whoever's ass responsible, honestly, if I had been in a similar situation. I don't dig losing more than several hundred dollars to crap at any given time, much less over a thousand.

Usually happens with hotels and car rentals, more often than not... They must really have messed up there.

Given how smoothly that process went, I'd guess you do *NOT* have a Capital One credit card.

On a similar note, never pre-order games at Best Buy.

They'll continuously put holds on your account, even if that means they pile up on some days, making a hold for $128 over, like, a $50 game.

And they pretend it's the Bank's fault... stupid idiots.

I bought my Super Smash Brothers: Brawl game from the still better (but not terribly good) ex-Funcoland Gamestop, and got it on the Midnight of the day it came out.

This is also why I don't play it as much. I already have gotten a lot of gameplay out of it...

Split grocery costs with BMF. System screws up and puts entire balance on my card instead of just half of it.

"Account balance: -$7.38"

Wonderful.

This is why I never let my card handle transactions. Instead, I take the money out of my card myself, and hand the cash over. Some things are better done manually.

No, sucks for my business - not me.

Capital One doesn't offer cards in Quebec because of the costs involved - if they offered cards here, they'd need a French website, French documents, French customer service + departments... it's not worth it, especially these days.

(Fun fact: We can service people in either English, French or Spanish depending on who's taking the call/how comfortable they are doing so. Any other language - even if you're fluent in it - is forbidden. In that case, the customer needs to send a letter in their language to Capital One and someone will contact them back regarding the matter.)
