Circuit City closes for good.

Well, I never shopped there, but it is kind of sad.

I guess I'll head there tomorrow and see if any liquidations are going on. Maybe I can get really good deals on things.

How many people are losing their jobs as a result of this action?
Circuit City employs approximately 34,000 associates in the U.S.

I feel bad for them...

Hopefully they'll pay their employees something for having to let them go.

They might not have any good deals since it's a liquidation and not a blow out. Someone bought their products. Wonder who...still, I might check it out tomorrow since there's one right near me.

They were snatched up by the same vultures that liquidated CompUSA. Don't bother looking for good deals, you won't find any.

I wasn't exactly a big fan of the company, but I will admit I found a few good deals there in the past, and they provided competition for Best Buy (which is now the only major electronics/entertainment retailer left here). I hope their employees are able to find jobs soon, and I hope the bastards responsible for this mess get hit by a bus.

I knew they were next on the chopping block after I heard about CompUSA taking a dive. There were hints from a few people that I knew six months prior that seemed to state that they would be next.

Never shopped there more than a couple of times...one of which was to pick out a comp for my aunt and uncle about a decade ago of which I probably last saw five or six years ago. Most of these tech-based stores...Best Buy, RadioShack, etc. etc. can pretty much die in a fire now for all I care. With the advent of the Internet and much better pricing...I just flat out don't go to them anymore unless I need to pick up a spare part out of convenience...

And that really makes them amount to a 'tech convenience store' mostly.

Meh, never actually went to Circuit City.
The only electronics store I actually go to is Future Shop, and that's just because I get a $50 gift card from my uncle every Christmas.

The only thing I really remember about Circuit City is the commercial it had years ago with the giant red plug falling down from the sky and plugging into the corner. I think I've only been there maybe once or twice.

It's a shame so many people are losing their jobs, though.

I went there yesterday and honestly, their deals sucked. I've seen better prices on TVs at Target and Walmart and that's after the discount.

(hint: it isn't a discount)

They mark it up by x%, then mark it back down. It's not uncommon for the "discounted" price to be higher that it was before the closing.

Of course, most people just see OOH SALE LIQUIDATION BUY BUY BUY and don't bother to actually do any research.

(Fun fact: back when CompUSA was closing, we were in there seeing if there was anything of value... one of the overpriced HDDs actually had its original price tag on it for considerably less than the "discounted" one)

Oh I know and it was sad seeing all the people running and making a mad dash to a product just because they think they are getting a good deal. It was really sad.

One does not simply walk into Circuit City.

Are you trying to get the "dumbest member" award or something?

It's a reference to one of the Lord of the Rings movies, IIRC.

Doesn't make it any less dumb, though.

I'm more than well aware of that, but it is neither relevant nor funny.

You should've added a "Most noob'd category".

Xk could just have the database count it all up for him.

Circuit City is finally gone. I'm kicking myself for never going back to see if they marked down guitar hero controllers....oh well.

They didn't. Pretty much everything they sold was marked up 500% and discounted by just enough to be back to normal prices again (i.e. total bullshit).

Only the Canadian version (The Source by Circuit City, basically all the old Radio Shack stores in Canada that were bought a few years ago) remains, and they were bought by Bell last week.

My guess is that the new name of the place will be The Source by Circuit City Bell.
