Apparently everyone with one has problems.

All in the same day? What is going on?

It's probably just some weird crap relating to the date handler. What'd really be hilarious is if they tried to include some easter egg for the new year.

Then again, with MS these days, something like that would be rare.

But why today, not tomorrow?

Kind of odd to have it mess up the day before a new year starts if that is the case. I doubt it would be an easter egg though...

Maybe '12312008' is a secret password that causes your ZUNE to explode all data?

The theory I was told is that it had to do with the fact that this is a leap year, so the Zune is having trouble with the "366 days in a year" thing.

Of course, I don't really think it has anything to do with the calendar, but that's just me.

That'd be the only logical thing I could think of that makes any sense, actually...but why they would want it to freeze like it does due to that fact is beyond me.

If that's really the case then it really is a Z2K9 Zunicide.

Get an iPod.

But if the problem does protain to leap year, that seems kind-of careless for microsoft.

So yea, on the way to work this morning, my Zune froze at start up. I thought it was just me, but I couldn't get the thing to soft reset.

Seems it's something with the eternal clock not being able to deal with a leap year and that at noon tomorrow, it should go back to normal.

Seems MS fixed it.

And yea, it does mention it was a calender issue. The driver couldn't handle it.

Pray tell why? I'm just curious. I've bought several and would like to hear from a Zune user.

I have an iPod, and while I don't necessarily dislike it (I didn't pay for it -- gift), I can definitely see how other people would use something else.

Cough iTunes. Cough. Cough.

The Zunes just seem to have more features overall, compared to the relatively featureless iPods.

The Zune is easier to navigate. I've tried to use iPod's program and I get lost, with Zune, its easier to find what I need. And I enjoy the larger screen. Yes, the iPod has more to d/l, but what I can't find on Zune's marketplace, I'll just d/l somewhere else. I also like how I can pay $14 a month and download as much music as I want. If I want to try out a new band, I can download them without having to worry about buying a CD that I might not enjoy.

I've heard of alternative methods of managing iPods, but I personaly have never used them. I don't have a problem using iTunes; it's free, most content is cheap. Although it does load slow (and migrating music to play in your car is an ass) but I've managed and can see why getting a Zune (or other device) makes perfect logic.

Depends on the quality. If it is 128kbps NOTHING is worth the price.

For $2.18 I can go to trackitdown.net and buy 320kbps music and use it however I want, or hell, an extra $.40 and I can get it in WAV and convert it to whatever format I find pleasing. Worth the money? Yes.

Even better, going straight to the artist's site and seeing where they want you to purchase their music. I know some even offer FLAC for sale if you want it.

One of my big problems with my iPod Nano is that control on it is an utter nightmare. It's extremely easy to overshoot my goal or hit the wrong option simply because the touch wheel is too sensitive.

And yeah, first thing I did was uninstall iTunes and use something else for it. Far less of a headache.

God, these threads are so predictable. This could have just as easily happened to an iPod and you know it.

For the record, I use either a Nintendo DS + M3 Perfect or modded PSP, depending on the media (though the DS has seen much less use since I installed MODo on the PSP).
