Microsoft, Apple, and Google sued for the same damn thing.
These lawsuits are getting damned frivolous. And the patents. Though this is a case of a company filing a patent with tons of prior art out there. |

This is stupid. They're suing them for something that has been standard computer features for decades now? What's next? Someone patents air and we're all sued for breathing without paying a fee?

Won't be long before suits are a thing of the past because of this.
Course, when that happens, you'll be up shit creek when you personally need one because of some quack doctor.

Windows XP lacks that feature. So did 98, 95, 3.xx, 2.xx, and 1.xx. DOS had nothing of the sort. Mac OS (not OS X) didn't do that, either.
The patent covers realtime thumbnail views of open documents, like in Vista's alt-tab thing. The article is, of course, wrong in saying that it's talking about the thumbnails in Explorer, which are thumbnail images of currently not-open documents.
EDIT: Disregard the above. "Files in an operating system". I would not define them as "active" documents if they're not open at the moment, but maybe they do?
Whether it's actually a frivolous lawsuit, I'm not qualified to say. |

There's already prior art for that. /shrug
I do remember a patent filing involving virtual desktops (which many window managers have had for *years*) some time back. The outcome of this is probably going to be similar, I'd guess. |

So the patent will be busted, who cares? This isn't exactly uncommon, and it's more likely that stupid patenting will go rather than the actual suing.

I agree. For them to mass sue major companies and expect that every single operating system with said feature will be chaned is simply bogus. It's also absurd that someone can patent something that's been in computers for years.
I can't see this following through.
