Mostly because of a gaping hole in their security...

I heard about it on the news this morning that MS was saying this...but I didn't know the reason until I looked it up this morning.

So yea...use something other than IE if you're still doing so. For good. Plzkthx.

I just installed an update too, for IE.

And yes I recommend switching over to something better, faster, and all the more safer.

Yea, this is one on a list of long reasons why people should switch...

yet, people don't; and they won't until microsoft drops IE altogether or works out a partnership with someone else, which we know never happens.

There's a patch being pushed out soon, according to a few places. Either that or it's out now.

IE is hopelessly broken, has always been hopelessly broken, and will always be hopelessly broken. Many a homework session has been turned into a code-tweaking nightmare by its outright disregard for established rules in favor of proprietary features. Every single compatibility footnote in my XHTML/CSS book involves a workaround for IE rendering quirks, including IE7. This is just another glorious step towards its inevitable fiery death in the pits of Hell.

Inevitable? Doubtful. It'll cling to life so long as Microsoft breathes.

Yes, and since it's packaged with every version of Windows, the computer illiterate are really going to suffer a lot more.

For some reason, I've never liked Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer used to crash way too often in my Windows XP which got really annoying. A friend told me about Firefox and I really liked it and I still use it. I also like the tons of plug-ins available for Firefox at the moment.

When I use Internet Explorer at school, I feel really awkward because now I'm used to using Firefox.

I couldn't use IE at school even if I wanted to because there are so many !@#$% toolbars installed! >:

(Apparently students have the necessary privileges to install them, but not disable them...WTF?)

Thanks for the bump. This thread really needed a super-condensed, eye-searing, idiot-speak recap.

(by the way, keep it up and I will not hesitate to destroy you )
