I was half-excepting something like this:

Besides that he won't participate in this winter's Comiket, he also mentions other doujinshi, including the anime.

He's worried that people will take it easyas "official" (something that actually IS happening, remember kids, it's just a doujin, no different than Touhou Proyect Side Story) becouse of the proffesional seiyuus...
He is also worried that if it is too high-profile it could affect his circle (as in, Team Shangai Alice), and people would actually pay more attention to the doujinshi than the actual official stuff. He wants them to make sure everyone understands it is nothing but a fanwork, specially those who don't know about Touhou.

In short, he doesn't like the idea of a high-profile anime, as it will give touhou a popularity he doesn't want it to have.

Hopefully this calms down the hype about it...

That's about as good a defense as putting a piece of paper against an incoming tsunami far, far, FAR too late of its oncoming.

I would wonder how happy you couldn't be against this much exposure for something of this nature, though. I mean sure...commercialization is OBVIOUSLY something he doesn't seek and it can certainly kill the quality of something (see: VAST AMOUNT OF THINGS INDIE vs. REST NOT) but I would wonder if he's only been concerned about it being too GOOD of a hit only now.

I would assume, if he was, he'dve probably been going 'WAIT WTF?!' against everything that's shown up as a doujin compliment to it since its inception into the world.

It seems like the line's always been blurry between what is "official" or just thought up by fans in the Touhou universe. Awesome as they are, we don't find out a whole lot about the characters, and some of the gaps are filled by fanworks. What happened to Sakuya prior to being Remilia's maid, a possible relationship between Eirin and Sakuya, etc.

It's strange to me that ZUN is so concerned about indie work being considered official when he hasn't filled a lot of the gaps himself.

I get annoyed a lot when I hear ignorant people who think Touhou is an anime and all this. It technically has one, but I can just picture people who think the games are based off this work or something.

Oh yeah, this is out. It even included English subs.

After watching the episode, I'm impressed. The characters are all exactly like I thought they would be played out and the quality was pretty professional for being a fanmade project. Plus everything felt right.

I'm glad it went through and can't wait to see what they do next.

Well, I enjoyed the first episode, especially considering it was unofficial. All the characters were pretty accurate, though they didn't seem to be drawn as well as the backgrounds and whatnot, which clashed a little.
Do we have any idea when the next episode will be released?

Usually, this is a technique to draw the viewers eyes to the characters and prevent them from blending into the background too well. (Disney's Sleeping Beauty used this technique, for example.) Many chose to have the characters detailed and the background simple to achieve the same effect, though.

Of course, I haven't watched the anime, so I can't really tell if it was done properly.
