The first alpha's been out for a few days, and I haven't messed around with it much, yet. It's substantially faster on my system and rendering feels much, much faster as well. There's some other goodies in there (even in the alpha), too:
  • Spell Checking (INLINE, :O)
  • Auto-updating. Hopefully it isn't as annoying as Firefox where it simply downloads and closes. Something like that.
  • Better Dragonfly (Opera's Developer Tools, basically.) Now with network graph!


The release schedule for it is summed up in a graph at the bottom of the alpha version page. I'm going to take a wild guess and say sometime around Christmas next year. I say this as there's still a few kinks in the current version (it's a bit wonky using the Windows Classic skin; namely, tooltip text doesn't appear, and tab thumbnails only show the thumbnail. Things like that.)

One more note: the installer, for some reason, wanted to install to my existing installation. Be sure to change this when you're installing if you want to run both versions side-by-side.

Since you bring up skin problems. Going from the default skin to Windows Classic causes the tabs to be too "high" (lots of padding, actually.) Restarting fixes this problem.

Also, when using Windows Classic (both in XP/Vista (possibly)) with the Windows Classic skin in Opera, the menu labels are black-on-blue. D:

Wasn't Opera 10 supposed to have extensions?

It looks interesting, but I don't think it will make me switch back to Opera. I'm just too used to my Firefox extensions

They aren't at the "new feature" stage yet, just the rendering engine, afaik.
