Yeah, but you would need to modify the code to really have the behaviour of the Co-op mode.

If you mean removal of friendly fire as behavior... Yes... That would require quite a lot of ASM, but I see no reason why that shouldn't be left in. It makes Coop more like a race to the finish. (The again... We COULD look back at history and see why Battle Toads 2P was a flop...)

Yeah. I also mean removal of the star handling code which would be useless. And add code to handle correctly the flagpoles, the blue rings (checkpoints) (we would have to re-create them), the three-items ability, and others...

Well, the flagpole code is mostly done in the single player mode already, and theres no reason that the star handling cant be left in. Blue rings and checkpoints are mostly optional. I really dont see much of another way to revive this mode.

Why are you saying "blue rings AND checkpoints" ? Blue rings ARE checkpoints and I think they're important, so if a player dies, he doesn't have to restart from the level start (if he's passed through a blue ring before).

Could it be possible to modify the Red Ring to activate a checkpoint in game?

Sorry, I ment to say blue rings. And I'm saying it is not 100% essential to the game. You start with the essentials, and then work on the extras

Treeki : please, I would love seeing how you coded your NSMB editor 3.0. And remember what you said in your 148th post :

That editor wouldn't really be useful to base a redone one on, but probably a good reference for the various formats.

Why didn't you answer me when I asked you the source ? If you were busy, it's OK. But, please, answer me.

Because,

1. I'm sick of ROM hacking and the idiots that accompany it. I have other projects I want to work on.
2. I don't want to give out my source code any more. (Besides, apparently you can do just fine without it, so why bother?)
3. this (link)
4. this too (link)

So, why am I quitting ROM hacking once again? Because I realised there's no point in it. Barely anyone cares about DS hacking, except for idiots who can't figure out anything. All I get out of it is being harassed by people all the time.
I had fun exploring NSMB and ROM hacking with Tanks and Sonicandtails. But I seriously can't be bothered to hack any more.

See you when NSMB2 is out. Until then, I give up.

Good luck out there Treeki. I'm sad to hear that you're abandoning ROM hacking. I was hoping Mega-Mario wouldn't get in the way of things, but I thought wrong.

If you're ever pestered by people over NSMB, just send them to me. I have some tutorials I wrote for Pozeal that I can use to help them.

It's not because of him specifically. It's just that .. I don't really like ROM hacking any more. I mean, it's fun, but what can I seriously do with a piece of crap editor?

That plus the fact I lose my motivation to work on anything every 5 seconds, and all the idiots
"It say overflow plz my rom dozent work why not i have windoze vista i rly want to edit nsmb" etc.

Pretty much the only thing I've seen come out of it are NRMB and loads of shitty youtube videos where people have moved a few blocks and claim it's a hack.

I probably won't start ROM hacking again until I next get sick of Furcadia..

As much as I respect you as a fellow member of not only the ACMLM, JUL and MFGG community, but the ROM hacking scene as well, I dislike that kind of attitude very vastly.
From the tone of your post you make it look like you made some 'great realization' of how ROM hacking in general serves no purpose and underestimate its value.
Just because you developed an excellent editor does not give you the privilege to dodge all kinds of questions from these 'noobs'. Dumb people exist on the internet, and you can either help them out or ignore them. Complaining about how you're sick of the constant question stream won't help it and make you look like an elitist.
Don't get me wrong. I understand how anyone would get annoyed eventually by that, but you seem to take it a bit too far.

Yeeeeeah, if you're gonna make an editor for a massively popular game, you'd better be prepared to answer some really stupid questions.

Considering that the idiots was just one part of tons of reasons, I think it is acceptable to feel that way. He already stated clearly that he got bored with it, the morons just topping the cake.

Seriously, we're here for a reason! Let us know about that and they'll be gone instantly! I had no idea he was flooding you with PMs... last time I checked he hadn't sent any. Sorry...

So, why am I quitting ROM hacking once again? Because I realised there's no point in it. Barely anyone cares about DS hacking, except for idiots who can't figure out anything. All I get out of it is being harassed by people all the time.

Honestly, we're here for this too. Idiots aren't welcome (see SM64 hacking)... just let us know and we'll take care of them. They shouldn't be more than a minor nusance; just ignore 'em, point them out, and we'll take care of them.

I'm sorry to see that you've stopped, as there are a lot of neat and interesting things you can do on the DS; for one, I was pretty excited when you were releasing those screenshots/videos of prototype levels.

If there's anything I can do to help out, let me know.

And Raccoon Sam, I would not call "not wanting floods of questions about the most basic things ever" 'elitism'. It's more like not wanting to deal with the mental ward that recently got its own telephone.

Hi,

What happened to Mega-Mario ? Why all of his posts have been replaced with Deleted User's ones ? Plus his editor looked good.

@Treeki : I think he sent you so much messages because you didn't answer his first messages. BTW, good luck, and all your work was really great, even if your editor has bugs. Like Tanks I'm sad seeing you stopping your hard work. But I understand that the n00bs are really annoying.

He was banned, probably because of these topics:

http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=3476
http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=3478

On the first topic, he was given a chance to explain himself, but then he created another junk topic (the second one) and probably because of that, got banned, though there were others things that might have contributed to this.

Then he reregistered and created this topic:

http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=3483

I suppose because he was banned and deleted, this seems to happen to most of the people who were banned.

Your probably right, however Treeki doesn't have to answer them though.

The n00bs weren't the whole reason he stopped, if you didn't know.
