To give you an idea on esoteric, I'm talking probably more US/EU standard than anything but...this gives you an idea of some of the games I enjoy at random:

Yuu Yuu Hakusho Tokubetsuhen
Tetris Butou Gaiden
Ranma Nibunnoichi: Chougi Ranbu Hen and Ougijyaanken
Killer Instinct

...

Okay I'll go outside the consoles and go 'massive fave on ATLUS stuff'.

Anyways, I tend to stray from the fan favorites or the stuff that gets all the media highlighting. It tends to be a turnoff for me if I hear others that I normally talk to also talk about it unless I originally looked it up myself. A bit bizarre, but it's just how I deal with these things...I tend to look up stuff that some like a while down the road once they give it a chance but that does make it to where you run into a lot of weird games every once in a while.

Basically, are you one to stick with the reviews and popular titles like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, whatever...or are you one to do otherwise and be somewhat of a lone wolf in that regard?

I'm a fan of a lot of games and I get the ones that I like, regardless of general opinion. I oftentimes find myself liking games that have average scores too.

However, a lot of games that I do like are the well known games. Occasionally I'll run across a random game that I enjoy but most are mainstream well known.... Probably one of my best examples of this is the Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow SNES cartridge I have. Totally random game, loved it.

I widely vary. Everything from GTA, Halo, CoD, and such. To obscure stuff like Castle Shikigami 2. Even doujin soft or whatever that's called.

I generally stick with the more well-known ones, since I dislike paying for a game I end up not liking.

But, I do have a few exceptions. Way of the Samurai, Forsaken 64, Extreme-G, Legend of Cao Cao, gonna pick up Castle Shikigami 2 in a few days, Utopia...

I also have a tendency to only get the more obscure games online. I don't know why, I just don't generally like buying them in the Gamestop here.

Weird NES games not well known that I specially like and grew up with:

Flipull (weird puzzle game aparently nobody ever heard about)
Quarth (awesome game, though it isn't that obscure)
Milon's secret castle (just plain weird)
Ninja Jajamaru-Kun series (very obscure)
Solstice (I don't know how many people know this game, but it's awesome)
B-Wings (Just... B-Wings)
And I'd say Legend of Kage, but it got a DS sequel so I don't know if it's really that obscure...

There's more stuff... but I don't consider them to be unknown enough. (anyone that is into shoot 'em ups know Xevious for instance)

If you were talking three or so years ago with myself and maybe Rydain a scarce few others, I'd agree.

Anymore that's a game people will play. NIS's popularity has 180'd and I'm not sorry to hear about it either - they're well worth the time given.

I like playing whatever games I want, regardless of how popular or not they are. Of course, I have to know about a game to play it, and I don't really seek out obscure gaming news, so most of the games I've heard are basically not obscure at all.


Edit: That said, what I've heard about Disgaea makes me really want to play it. :3

If you never have, you most certainly should. I don't think I've seen anyone, even Xkeeper, able to put it down until it was finished through at least the story.
