Ok guys... Seriously... Let's start with the fact that these guys are politicians, not magical moon men with the knowledge to save the world embedded in their brains. Ok. We clear on that? We know they're thinking humans just like us? Good.

Now Shadic, as much as the whole "He looked at the two and picked the guy he saw to be the best" thing seems convenient, I doubt it. This is politics we're dealing with, and not just that... We're dealing with a high level republican who will be out of a job. Yea, a job. He's doing this to smooth the rough Bush Administration edges of his so he can continue with his cozy life style with the next guy who he's betting is Barrack.

I highly doubt a man would switch party lines just because he "felt like it." This is where the "race" issue came into play. I don't see how race could not have been a factor in his decision, but I'm not going to argue that point.

Looking back at history, you find that Powell's positions were all appointed by republicans. Hell, even his son got his position in the FCC because of a republican. All of this, and you think a man would just walk away from a party? Well of course he would, if it meant another nice job.

I love how you go from almost making a good point (He's a politician following the good life wherever it goes) to veering into a wall about how race "most definitely" had something to do with his choice.

A-fuckin'-mazin'.

I'm curious, did you actually watch the video?

If you think this presidential debate isn't about race in even the slightest, then you need to wake up. It's nice that you don't hold racism as a problem for yourself. I don't either...and I'm sure a lot of people debating this topic right now are the same.

But there's no way that a good majority of people think the same way you do...most of them BEING black. They're going to want to side with their minority out of preference...not for facts. It's already been told numerous times over this campaign.

Think I showed off a Howard Stern bit not too long ago about this in the other thread...

And my grandparents refuse to consider him beyond "His name's Obama, and that kind of sounds like Osama, so you know what he's going to do in the presidency."

Those kinds of people are on both sides of the gender, race, party, whatever lines.

So that admits to the possibility that this could be race-based then.

I'm saying that some people, on both sides, are racist, and it plays out ina way that makes the effects of both nearly equal. Even if nto, the impact of race on this... race is probably something of 1-2 points.

A) Yes, I did watch the video.

B) I said I saw no reason for it not to be a possibility. I never said it was definite. I'm merely pointing out it is entirely possible. I only pointed this out because there is evidence suggesting race played a role. I believe he was speaking to a college class and stated a black president would be "electrifying." This certainly is evidence. It may not be enough to prove much, but any evidence is enough to open a "possibility."

Again, I did not want to argue the point of race. My point still stands that he is simply doing this for a place in the next administration.

After reading a lot of the news around it, this image sums it up nicely. http://punditkitchen.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/political-pictures-colin-powell-in-your-party-endorsing-opponent1.jpg

If McCain wins, I wonder if Powell will come crawling back.
