Big rumor on this...

The Milestones are out (we're at Milestone 3 as of this month)...but the beta is due out in 5 days.

Shouldn't they finish work on the current version? You know, fixing major bugs, things that slow it down, etc. And I guess the another question to ask is when they're going to stop support for Windows 5 (XP). I think they'll treat it like Windows 2000, but with Microsoft, you can never tell.

They're likely going to dump about a third of what Vista is into this and call Vista another ME. Vista blows donkey balls and MS knows this.

Most of those fixes can already be found in some of the Milestone editions that are already out for Windows 7. Check Wikipedia for the details[citation needed]. XP is slated to stay alive until 2014 for support, when it was 2010 beforehand because of MS's 10-year-policy...

Also...last I checked, Windows 7 Milestones were considered version 6.1.xxxx. So right now I can't very well be sure that Windows 7 will be that version from the way things are now.

Unless this is a great leap forward, I'm not really gonna care.

XP has managed to fight death enough that I can feel safe using it for quite a while, at least.

I think they should just update Windows XP. Vista seems to be confusing, takes alot of juice out of your computer and still has some bugs. Not all want flashy, shiny interface.

I'm only using Vista because ATI has shit drivers for XP.
Call of Duty 2 ran like crap on our brand new computer on XP SP2, with the latest drivers.
Yet COD4 runs on high with Vista...

Meh, I just hope Windows 7 lets you turn off every single fucking warning message.

You can already disable the vast majority of them by turning off User Account Control.

You guys might wanna do some reading...

UAC is pretty much dramatically reduced with 7. A lot of negative things that Vista had is supposedly going to be removed with it as well...in all actuality it sounds like 7 is going to be a HELL of a lot better than Vista with what I keep hearing and most of it keeps pushing the motion of Vista equating to ME2 (Mistake Edition II) in lieu of 7 taking it over and being a semi-decent operating system like 2000 was.

My opinion of Windows 7 (and whether or not I end up using it) will be mostly based on how much DRM crap Microsoft crams in or retains from Vista.

Hopefully that's a low or lower amount from what most keep thinking.

For MS to fuck up to OS version in a row would be unprecedented though...

Maybe, just maybe, a miracle will happen and Windows will be bug free...

Or, maybe I should put effort into making my own.

Drag's Post #1343
The only way Windows could ever be close to "bug-free" is if they removed all backwards compatibility and started from scratch. The sheer amount of hacks and patches and kludges in place to make old programs work is INSANE. Seriously, 9x/NT application support needs to be moved into a completely separate emulation layer or something, like a virtual machine ("separate" meaning you could remove it from the OS, and it would continue to work flawlessly). I'm not the only one that believes this, either.

I'm sticking with XP on my desktop PC.
I installed and "workstationized" Windows Server 2008 on my laptop. It works very nicely.

I don't really see the problem with Vista, though. Runs better than XP on here for me...
Hopefully, Windows 7 will be better. Chances are, I'll be using Ubuntu by then, though.

When wikipedia gives you your own page about how you suck there may be something wrong there.

I'm sticking with XP and Linux until 2010. They give me everything I need, and if I feel that I need something else, then I'll think about it.

Seriously...I get to deal with this kind of thing on an almost daily basis. The reason we're AT Windows XP Professional for our own XP-based comps is because of this fact right here...

Just compare the size and severity of the articles and the complaints in them, Vista's page is obviously much worse. Wikipedia probably has a criticism page for everything like this, doesn't mean the software in question is bad, just some people complain about something, and there is never no complaints.
