You can blame that on the fact that, AFAIK, we have the highest gas tax in the country.

The lowest I've seen it this month is $3.06.

What state do you live in? That's surprisingly low.

$2.93 up the street from here.

This is in the middle of Citra, Florida. It is more expensive in town (in Ocala) and a lot cheaper a few minutes away from it.

Gas here just hit $2.29 a gallon this morning.

I doubt it'll go under $2 a gallon, but...

2.52/gallon here. Rumors of the 2.4x range are around as well but that's what I'm looking at.

Hold true to a 2 dollar a gallon future. Oil's tumbling (below 70 bucks now). If it gets to 60 or 50...I would think it may be VERY possible to see <2 dollars a gallon by X-mas with the crap fuel demand.

Down to $1.03/L here (around $3.10 US/gallon) ... but a good part of the drop could also be due to the canadian dollar falling (from 95¢ last month to under 80¢ today), since it's always higher here

Cheapest gas in South Fla right now is at $2.59, which is in Miramar and no where near me or my work. The nearest cheapest gas station to me and my work is strangely at the same price, even being 20 miles apart at $2.71.

I was pleasantly surprised that premium gas was under $3 when I put some gas in the tank this morning.

I love how every story I've read in the paper on the subject makes it out to be a terrible thing, because OH NO DEMAND IS DROPPING AND OPEC IS MAKING LESS MONEY AND THEY'RE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING CUTTING BACK PRODUCTION but people can afford to buy groceries again WHAT A DISASTER BOO HOO HOO

Too bad the store owner is probably in a world of hurt now. I can tell you from experience that they make VERY little profit on fuel sales. There's a reason so many fuel stations have convenience stores attached--that's how they pay the bills.

I agree with a lot of the commenters there, these people were basically stealing gas. Most (all?) of them knew the price was way off, but instead of doing the right thing and informing someone in charge, they decided to take advantage of the situation and suck the station dry before the mistake was fixed. It's disgusting, and I hope karma hits these people hard.

I agree. I don't have a problem with something like Opec and Exxon losing money over something stupid. Huge corperations that constantly rape the public in the ass, I'm a little more lenient when it comes to stealing from them. But taking advantage of this isn't sticking it to the gas companies. It's just screwing over the gas station owner who is just a regular joe trying to pay the bills like the rest of us. I don't care how broke you are, taking advantage of that situation is no better then stealing the gas right out of someone elses tank. In fact its worse because he keeps getting stolen from until someone shows up who has a conscience.

On a lighter note though, on my way home this morning I saw that gas in Ohio is now down to $2.33. Yahoo!

Only problem is, 80% of people that were at the pumps looking at that wouldn't probably tell a soul about it except to other people before it got changed. That's the reality. Greed rules over economic thinking and it's evident not only in something like this but in the government as well. Hell, look at the state of our economy now and tell me that isn't true.

And you're definitely right about the gas thing, considering most of it is base price on top of gas tax that, most of, goes into roads for each particular state. Very little of it actually goes into actual profit and that's what most average consumers don't realize when they think that the people working at gas stations as leads are making a killing - they aren't. They get extremely pissed at situations like this and for drive-offs because it kills them financially. Workers get let go for this kind of thing.

Some of those 'pay first' places had to mandate it because of drive-offs, by the way. I used to work for one that had to do that because it was becoming EXCEEDINGLY common (as in hundreds of dollars of loss each week).

And of course, after telling this to people at work today, I had somebody say that they would fill their tank up in a heartbeat, they don't see anything wrong with it, and that they don't care if its stealing. Of course considering that the person in question is a completely inconsiderate dumb bitch this doesn't really surprise me. *Sigh* Yet another reason why I need a new job. The people I work with have absolutely no morals. Of course with the economy the way it is, especially in Ohio which has the 2nd the worst state ecomony beat out only by Michigan, wish me luck with that.
