I'm about to pull this comp and I just realized that, even though I have a CD player on the side, I have no CD-based music on hand. I just don't use it like that anymore. Cassettes have far and away been dead for me.

Everything's pretty much gone digital now and I've fallen into that category. Anyone the same?

Not really, though on long drives the CD player in the car has been known to get some use.

My aunt's car and my dad's truck...

My mp3 payer gets the most abuse.

I have used the CD player on the car when I come home from school. It one of the only times I hear music away from the computer (not even an MP3 player ).

I never had a CD player. In fact, I never had any audio CDs either

As for portable devices, I've been using my (t)rusty 245MiB MP3 player since 2004, and am still using it today

To go along with that notion, I have a 30GB iPod (2007 gen) that I've got working in the klunker of mine. It's pretty much the only place I use it.

The rest of my music gets jammed off this comp.

CD what now?

Seriously, though, I've ripped most of the CDs I own to WAV/MP3. Winamp 5 paired with the MAD MP3 decoder is my weapon of choice for home listening, while my modded DS + M3 Perfect + CF cards keep me sane away from home. I have a decade-old Sony CD deck in my car, but it doesn't get much use anymore.

It's amazing how much of a hassle digging for the right disc, cleaning off the crap, opening the drive tray, pushing it closed, and seeking to the desired track becomes once you've been spoiled by a well-organized music folder.

Other than those, not really. :/

I'm still building my CD collection, though I will admit that all of my music is ripped into my computers (for convenience only, mind you). I still listen to CDs from my 51 disc changer, though. I'm about 3 discs away from having the thing filled up, too. I also listen almost exclusively to CDs in my car, though that's only because I don't know of the radio station that will play some of Meat Loaf's more obscure titles.

But yeah, I highly doubt I'll ever move on to portable digital media. MP3 Players and iPods are way too expensive for me...

Buy the cheapest MP3 player*, exchange the supplied headphones for some better ones (even the simple ~10$ ones from Sony are much better than the supplied, which usually have horrid bass, which came with the inexpensive devices) and money is no major problem.

*Depending on the number of available space of course. Some offers simply are rip-offs.

For me:
I rarely buy CDs or download it (il)legally, I heavily rely on radio, sometimes record/rip my own tracks out, thanks to Audacity and turned-off system sounds. A CD may be not be a practical medium, to use for music, now, but a sparkling disc with some nice patterns on it, along with a good booklet is more interesting to put into the shelf than plain file names on a hard drive. The real problem, however is the incosistency between prices for CDs and music in MP3 format via the internet. I neither want to buy an album where only four out of ten track are pleasing me for the full price, on the other hand some downloads are as expensive as the physical CD in your store.

On the other hand I currently have no CD player, as the constant changing of disks along with stuttering, if you are running outside for example, can be annoying at times.

...51?! Where did you manage to get that? I used to have a 6-disc changer, and it worked fine, but... I had no idea there were players that supported so many discs...

Occasionally. For example, I have a stack of Nightwish CDs, which I haven't bothered ripped. I do also use cassettes, there's a couple rare songs on them.

I probably should convert them into MP3 someday.

I've had it for years, now. Got it as a Christmas present a long time ago, and have only recently had enough CDs to fill it. It's made by Sony, that's all I can tell you about it. I don't know if they still make things like this, anymore. It's huge, with stereo speakers and everything.

I have no idea where you can find anything like this anymore.

My father's got a 100 on his audio system at the house. It's nothing cheap.

CDs?

It's nice to have the disks my music came from (oh so shiny), but they tend to cost money.

And then there are things like this that aren't from a CD...
