This comes from a Windows 2000 laptop, just got it reinstalled with SP4 Pro. Updates are installed to the most I could. Everything else on it works fine except for the following two things:

Simple PCI Communications Device (or related, I forget at the office) - The problem here is that I don't know what this relates to. The modem, sound, and all 'Simple PCI' that I'm aware of is installed and working properly.

ACPI-Controlled Method Battery - Comes on only when you do a scan for new hardware in Device Manager. When you reboot, it's gone. Scan again it's there. Reboot, nothing. At any time, you will not get any information about the battery unless you have it installed and it's in the dialog somewhere, never on the desktop or system tray since, even when unplugged, it always says something about 'On AC Power'.

Not sure if I need a particular device driver for Win 2K or not, but we're dealing with a Compaq 1200 (12XL300B) based laptop and I've modified it quite a bit. The battery is a replacement but worked just fine with it came time to use Xubuntu on it. The only problem is my father, whom the laptop belongs to, doesn't want that OS because it does nothing for him and therefore Windows 2000 was the best I could give him, given the system specs (320MB RAM, 600MHz Celery, basically).

So...anyone got an idea? :\

I'm not too sure what could be done about the battery, aside from trying a BIOS update from here. (Hopefully that link will work when you try it...)

As for the PCI thingy, you can look up the Vendor and Device ID's here to find out what it is.

But it doesn't update BIOS...that's the thing. :\ Besides, it wouldn't make a diff since it works with Linux just fine.

Still have the battery issue. :\
