And I was thinking "Hey, I should do something with these" so I've been thinking of what to do with them.

I'm sort of leaning towards making an MP3 player out of them, but I'm still not sure...

Any suggestions?

Do you have enough monitors? You might be able to make a bunch of useable desktop machines.

Or you could install Linux on them and make them into web servers. (Or print servers, or email servers, or scanner servers...)

If you're going to have them powered up, you should check them for bad capacitors. You could lose a good CPU to that.

An e-machines... don't remember many specifics about it, I'll edit them in later.
Fried power source, and possibly fried motherboard.

A custom built, same deal as above, ~11GB hard drive if I remember. Was running XP

And a Packard Bell... really old, wouldn't count on anything above 4 or 5 GBs for a hard drive.. Running ME I think. Was making beeping noises last time it was turned on.

Or at least I think it's the packard bell.... could be the REALLY old one that's running Windows 98, I'll have to check as we put them in the closet and I haven't had a chance to see them in a bit.

Still, I don't think it's a lot either way.

Most likely both. Many models of eMachines fail like that.

Does it make a faint high-pitched noise when it's plugged in? If it does, the motherboard will kill any other power supply that's plugged into it. TeconmoonYukito managed to fry a brand-new power supply that way (yay warranty?) and I nearly blew up one of mine.

Not a whole lot you can do with hardware that old/broken. Unless you plan on keeping the old drives, you'll probably need add-on IDE controller cards, depending on how old the integrated ones are (drives bigger than 137GB need 48-bit LBA). It's probably not worth it.

You have a definite point there. I have no way of putting software onto my two //e's or malfunctioning Macintosh Plus, and my two 386's can't run Linux.

But, I have fifteen or so computers that can run the latest and greatest Linux distributions.

Distributed computing, anyone?
