It's rare, but every now and then the explicit Admin-Only Thread Dumpster gets a new thread (usually when something better left forgotten occurs). No posts are really deleted, because they'd almost always show up in some backup anyway.

I'm usually differentiable by my layout (the iceberg BG I've been using since 2004 still lives), though I kinda wanted to try out a new one for a bit.

I think I might revert. As much as I like this one, it just feels too generic.

So uh, figure out who is who based purely on the way they type on a message board with a decent amount of active members actually CAN be difficult some time. Why don't we all change out name to "Anonymous" or something, and get rid of layouts and avatars, then?

Apparently it would still be easy to tell people apart.

Layout style, you twit. As in, for example, Hiryuu's layouts are usually the same style with just different colors and occasionally a different character. Mine are always centered with the winamp bar. cpubasic13's are always the same style as well.

Not only that, but the Anonymous experiment a while ago showed that only about 4 people on this forum are mature enough to handle something like that without going DUH DUH DUH DUH because they don't have a name.

Really, the name changes are just an inconvenience that waste a minute or two of our time trying to figure out who's who. There aren't many other things to complain about, so people naturally complain about this. I don't like it because the a great deal of top posters go by a name I'm not entirely familiar with, and they tend to change their name any time they feel like it. Besides, names stick like glue to people, so people don't just immediately replace the name they've always called them with something else and get used to it. (Think of how annoying it is when games decide to switch the usual button format, something you have used all of you life) Permanent changes and ones that last a long time aren't nearly as annoying, though. Same goes for ones that give us an obvious clue as to who it is, like hydra.

On a side note, some of us don't have layouts turned on, so the layout style thing doesn't apply to us. I would say something about custom sidebars giving us a clue as to who's who, but I'd rather have them gone. It makes having layouts off still have bits and pieces of the layouts still there, almost ruining the point.

By the way, I would have changed my username (permanently) quite some time ago if it weren't for the fact that I'd hate to make a hypocrite of myself, as I've always been annoyed with these name changes everywhere I went. (This applies to real life as well) Besides, I'd also hate to annoy others just because I felt like changing my name one day, so I've stuck with this exact one for years.

The whole "Layout with an anime character on the side" layouts aren't THAT rare, you know. And top that onto "Changing layout colors, usernames, etc." at the same time makes it a hassle. And as Red Snifit here has said, what about the people who have layouts turned off? Names and avatars is all you've got to go on.

Regardless, this is all an opinion thing. Some people find it annoying to have to spend a minute or two every time somebody decides to change everything to re-figure out who they are. Apparently, some don't, and like to insult those on the other side.

Agreed. "Shadic" is a bit more common than I'd like of a name, but I've used it for like, six years now. It would be weird to change.
