Never thought I'd see this. After a long time of no new releases, everyones (I hope) favorite media player for streaming things and watching videos on your flash drive at school has been updated!

I has much better subtitle support (yay no broken subtitles), better mkv container support, a new gui, and much more.

A full list can be found here, and this release can be downloaded here on their website.

I still use mplayer for playing DVDs since the drive I have is, well, somewhat slow with reading. Everything else I use VLC for, more or less.

If I was back on my old P3, it would make a bit of difference.

Otherwise, stick with Media Player Classic via KLM.

I wonder how well that compares with the CCCP?

I should look into that.

Not sure. I know that KLM stays fairly up to date at least.

I use VLC and Winamp for pretty much all my audio/video needs. Media Player Classic locks up far too often (especially with small files, like .MIDs) and has trouble rendering some common video formats.

Then again, how many video problems do you have period?

It makes me wonder what you guys do to your vid cards as is...

No more than the average XP user. Most of the problems I was having disappeared when I swapped cards, and the rest seem to be application-specific XP incompatibilities. I do run a lot of old software.

VLC exhibits none of the problems MPC does, so I doubt anything's wrong with my system.

I take it out every night, toss it on a shag carpet, and take a steaming crap on it while the fan is still spinning. Duh.

I think 15+ years of experience with computers has taught me how to properly handle delicate hardware.

Ear hurting much? Just take it easy. :\

Besides, I was referring to your X1950 woes you've mentioned every so often when it comes to pass against it. I haven't had many if any issues as it is with my XP copy so I don't know where you're coming from...

And go ahead and flaunt whatever plus years of experience, I couldn't give a crap, but chill the hell out when I'm mentioning something that you've mentioned on occasion that I'm bringing up as relevance to a claim on what is good and what isn't.

VLC has crashed a lot on me when doing mudane tasks like selecting a part of a video or taking a screenshot. Heck even just having it running caused it to crash for some reason.

This version may make it better. I'll have to check it out.

I use VLC exclusively on Linux and MPC exclusively on Windows. Using one media player on the other system causes it to crap out really badly. So yeah, that is my experience with it.

And also, since I installed linux back in Spring, there has been like many new releases of VLC? Unless one does not count 0.9.2i->0.9.2j as a release.

but anyways, if the player works for you, great. if it doesn't, don't rain on someone else just because it works for them.

Aww man. The Vorbis decoder in VLC is still broken.

The problem is an occasional noticeable change in audio pitch. It really bugs me for some reason.

What a downer, they are using some shitty non-native file open dialog that doesn't let you enter a path and press enter.
