Today, we remember the victims of the 9/11 attack on the twin towers of New York... Looking back, it was a lot more drastic than I remembered it. People were literally jumping out of the towers, though they didn't show that on the news. I didn't have anyone close be a victim of this, for which I am grateful.

One (stupid) guy in a class I have said, "It's been 7 years since that happened, why doesn't everyone just forget about it?" And I'm thinking, "Are you fucking serious?"

So yea, let's remember. Thoughts?

I'm with this guy, actually. It's been seven years. There have been much worse disasters (e.g. Katrina).

The fact that it's also been shoved down our collective throats for a million and one reasons sure doesn't help.

To be honest, I agree with that guy too..
I won't say that it isn't terrible to lose beloved persons (or any people at all, actually), by all means, it's just... it's been so long, you shouldn't make your life any more terrible by thinking back so much.

Of course I feel sorry for everyone involved, but.. thinking about it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again isn't going to bring them back, as much as I hate to say it.. because you can't change the past. The only thing you can change about the past is how you think about it.


Of course, that's so easy for me to say. :\ ... I don't know.

The reason I think it's worth remembering is because so many different nationalities were in those buildings.

The ones that pulled the attack killed so many of their own people even.

Honestly, 9/11 was bad. However, at the same one thing that people need to do is let go of the past. 9/11 is not the be all and end all, however it's good to remember.

That said, I cannot stand people like my sister who honestly believe it was not a bad thing/it was not a tragedy

Truly it was a tragedy and should never be forgotten, but we should try to move on as a nation. I mean, we can still have a moment of silence or something. I remember reading somewhere that people who kept sadness and such about events like this inside instead of letting it out all the time tended to be happier or at least less depressed later on.

9/11 was a horrible day, and it's good that we remember it, but some things you just have to try to forget.

Having a moment of silence is good enough to remember what happened to those people.

I second that. Remembering/moment of silence is enough. (It got a little frustrating when one of my teachers postponed nearly an entire class to show us some stuff about 9/11)

I don't mean to make light of the tragedy by any means, let me just say this right now. It was horrible and sad and I would certainly never wish for such a thing to happen to any peoples of any country. However, as many said, 7 years later how long do we keep it going, and is it for the right reasons? Do you honestly still see people mourning over say, the holocaust victims every years? (and if they do just tell me to shut the fuck up right now) You know, I mean I know that was much longer ago but how is this tragedy any more serious or worth honoring than any other? Because it affects our country directly? Because its "the right thing"? Or because we just feel like we have to. Honestly if I lost someone I'd never forget them and I'd honor and mourn their death as I would any other loved one's death in an appropriate manner. But....still.

I had to make the 01 distinction because 9/11/82 was when my parents got married, so when people say 9/11 was a horrible day without specifying the year, it annoys me.
