I've got Comcast, which doesn't give me to much trouble. But at the old house I lived at, they chose the DUMBEST places to run the wires outside. There were so many places they could have put it so that it would look better, so we redid it after they left.

Oh, and to those who are interested. I need to get rid of these. I've read these volumes way to many times.

This computer is getting old...

Everytime I have two or three things going on, everything slows down to a crawl, and I can hardly do anything. I also don't have a good amount of RAM (512MB is definitely not a recommended amount), so I use a lot of Virtual Memory on the hard drive, and I hardly have much space anyways .

At least my internet's good ...

Hey, some good luck with the computer
My dad got his RAM in yesterday, got the computer up and running.
We were going to buy a video card, except the motherboard has integrated graphics, which are highly overclockable and better than the video card we were planning on getting.

So I was at working today and while putting stickers on the game I noticed what I had done...it gave me a good laugh.

And yes, this is what get's me through the day.

...And now my monitor doesn't work, so I have an old one being used right now until I can either fix it, or get a new one.

The weird sticker placement on the top gave me a good laugh. Along with what you did to the name.

Just wait until they raise the price and make it a huge hassle for you to cancel services...

When we tried the switch out, they told us we had canceled, yet were still taking money out of my mom's checking account without telling her. We didn't know until a check bounced.

I've got Shaw... but when we switched phone services, Telus called like a month later asking about if we changed or not, and we got hassled for a while afterwards.

This reminds me of when my mom and dad used AOL years and years and years ago. They (as in AOL) changed my sister's account from a kids account to a full account while still limiting the access of the account. At the same time they charged for it as if it was a brand new account.

Yeah, my mom and dad weren't happy with that.

Classic AOL shenanigans. I don't think there's anyone they didn't screw in one way or another.

(fortunately for us, the online signup process broke partway through and we ended up going with Prodigy Internet instead )

NetZero. They continued charging us after we had canceled. (The fact that they were charging us in the first place is odd, considering that they were supposed to be offering free internet...)

Not as bad as AOL. They even sent a refund!

...Suddenly, I'm thinking of those PeoplePC commercials offering dialup for "only" $10.95. For four dollars more, Verizon has DSL.

If I get mom and pop based providers, I'm usually doing rather well.

If nothing else, a smaller means of people to yell at when it comes time for trouble and generally they give better service to a general area and less crap if it comes down to it.

Sort of like what I'm doing now.

hahahahaha. PeoplePC. hahahahahahaha.

I've had the sheer joy of dealing with PeoplePC first-hand on someone's borked system. I'm surprised I was able to restrain myself from putting my fist through the monitor.

Didn't they originally offer low-cost PCs before moving into the ISP business? I remember seeing commercials with a really annoying, smarty-pants kid hawking their wares back in the '90s...

I remember using PeoplePC before as my ISP, and it was fine for me at the time, but that was a long time ago.

Now I wonder how $10.95 was reasonable at the time ...

AOL, believe it or not, has never screwed me over in the five years I've been using it. All the problems I've had were from the phone line itself - It's an rare occurrence that my connection gets interrupted if the line's not got any problems...

Don't laugh. I had to USE PeoplePC for dial-up. In fact that is what we used all the way up to when we finally got high speed in the area.

For a while we couldn't dial in unless we had their program running all the time. After a while we found a way around it. That made it easier... and their "accelerator" did somewhat help, but not a whole lot. You can't improve dial-up.

Only thing that made it tolerable for me on 26.4 was some sort of compressor that did a passable job. The only one to do that, that was free for my use, was Fasterfox plugin for Firefox and that didn't really take effect for me until I used it a few times since it keeps a giant cache on your system.

Still, it was enough to render a few pages I went to fast enough. It was certainly not enough for my general use but it got me by until high speed was available and threw things into the land of barely tolerable instead of not.

I used dial-up for several years and was perfectly happy with it because I didn't know of any faster connections and the Mindspring never failed us. Not being able to use the phone at the same time was a bit annoying, though (we only have one line). I think only a couple of times we couldn't connect was because of technical difficulties.

Oh and someone bought some of my Zazzle stuff yayyyy~

Dial-up is really used for casual surfing really. I don't see how I can download anything I usually download with it ...
