That being 'usage-based' DSL...

Which means bad news for you torrent users using this service if it's what they think it'll be by October.

At least you have that option.

Oh well...not like I'm through AT&T anyways.

I use Verizon, not AT&T; but if AT&T goes with this, all the others probably will too...

Comcast to limit customers' broadband usage

Although they will just warn customers about usage above 250GB, it is a step in a direction towards usage-based pricing... :/

I very much hope Verizon will keep the FiOS service uncapped... I mean, the technology in this case can certain handle heavy usage (I've heard cable can have issues?) but then you get the smell of money and everyone jumps in...

But 250GB is a lot better than the 5GB the cell phone companies like to use...

Depends on how lenient your provider is too.

Mine's supposedly 10GB a month...I know I shatter this.

Back on DSLreports, it sounds like they're saying that every 10GB over 250 will be 15 bucks extra of a charge per month.

Now 250GB / month is really not that bad of a cap, per se, but I guarantee you that this won't fly in a good half-decade or decade because as technology grows, we're going to see a lot of people surfing at ridiculous amounts of speed in comparison to now. Eventually 250GB is going to be a paltry cap...

Hell, 10GB is right now when it used to be quite a bit.

AT&T still hasn't made usage-based pricing, so I'm safe.

For now...

So did Comcast with this statement.

I very much agree with this, since I have FIOS now...

Well, if my house stops going with Comcast for some reason...

Free Dial-Up!!

Yes, I've tried it and it works. It was just for fun, but it could be helpful if I lose power, and then connect to dial-up through a laptop.

Hm, a quick calculation (which could very well be inaccurate), says that if you use 56kbps 24 hours a day for a 31 day month, you could download ~18GB... Seems silly to go back to that versus a 250GB cap...

I'm hardly affected here, Videotron always had bandwidth limits ... even their best service allows quite a bit less than 250GB (100GB download+upload combined, exceeding it works but gets expensive fast), but I use maybe 10GB per month, 20GB at most

I mean if for some reason beyond my control that my family decides to not use it anymore, but that probably won't happen.

It won't affect me much, as I don't usually download more than a few gigabytes every month. In fact, I don't think I've ever downloaded more than 250 gigs in a single month.
Of course, that'll eventually change, but I'm hoping the cap will be raised by then.
