... Which includes playing various SNES SHMUPs, Recca (A SUPER HARD SHOOTING GAME), and whatever else I can find. Please suggest some.

... Please?

Any of the Touhou ones that've been mentioned. 11's a bitch.

Mushihimesama Futari (yea right, no one alive can do this without dying).

Uh...

Yea.

If you've hit the SHMUPs on the SNES then I'm out of ideas past those. I've yet to really look at several like HELLSINKER or Blue Wish Resurrection Plus or any Seihou game like Banshiryu yet but I've heard they're worth it...

Seihou Shuusou Gyoku is pretty good, as is Kioh Gyoku, but I haven't played Banshiryuu or Samidare.

They're all quite hard though D:

I can't think of anything to write here.
----------------------------
Yeah... Seihou might be good if you want a danmaku that isn't Touhou.

About SNES shoot em ups... No idea except for Gradius and Parodius.

There's also Hollow world of god:

This is just an special one though, the actual ones consist of the FPS slowing down to 30-10

Phoenix is still one of my personal favorites, but if you don't have a TI-92, oh well

You could give Super Earth Defense Force (SNES) a try. It was the game that got me into shoot-em-ups. A little easy if you use the default settings (Normal, 3 Shields), but it's pretty fun and has a decent variety of weapons.

You have a weapon level, which goes up gradually as you get points (not just kills, the end-of-level bonuses count as well), and it maxes out at 5. At levels 3 and 5 you get a new option for your satellites. The weapon level carries over, so if you want to use Homing until you get to level 3 and then switch, whatever you switch to is level 3.

The satellites also block bullets, so they seem like a mix of R-Type's Force and Gradius' Options.

Stages 1, 3, and 5 have midbosses, and stage 6... ah, see for yourself.

If you like complicated scoring systems, however, you'll be disappointed. Scoring strategy consists mainly of "kill everything" and "if you see a group, kill 'em all".

I'll say Axelay, even though [SNES Shooters] got mentioned.

I've been playing Space Megaforce/Super Aleste and U.N. Squadron lately. Both very good but can succomb to slowdown (like a lot of early SNES games.)

If you end up going for Touhou, make sure to start with number 8, Imperishable Night. It's considered by many to be the easiest one, and is a great way to introduce you to the series. It is perfectly beatable on harder settings, unlike some others... *cough*th07/11*cough*

I recommend following this order: 8 -> 6 -> 7 -> 10 -> 11.

That's because 9 is a VS-style shooter, along the lines of Twinkle Star Sprites. It's not a typical vertical-scrolling shooter like the rest of the Windows series (save the fighting games and the photo game, but those aren't included in that list either )
