And the whole "video games don't cause violence" argument goes flying out the window.

Yea I heard about this when it happened.

Honestly, I doubt that's the case...the kid was just probably off his rocker and blamed the closest thing that would make Jack Thompson happy...I mean you obviously have to be screwed up anyways to do this...

Well, I read somewhere else that he had just gotten kicked out of a pay and play arcade for not having enough money where he was playing grand theft auto and he had just jacked a taxi and killed the guy...

Either way, sentenced to death. Peace out crackhead.

One isolated incident out of probably close to half a billion video game players?

Not too bad of odds.

It is reported he was also angry that his parents could not afford to but him a copy and spent his allowance on two knives.
HURRRRRRRRRR
If he could afford to buy two knives, he could probably afford to buy GTA.

A senior official at Thailand's Culture Ministry said the murder was a wake-up call for authorities to tackle the issue of violence in computer games.
What about violence in movies and TV shows, I don't see them doing anything about that. What idiots.

Actually, Thailand does quite a bit of censoring when it comes to TV and movies... A lot of it seems to be that whole king-worship thing they have going on over there, but there is some stuff about violence.

Ah, well we can only hope this type of thing doesn't make its way over to Canada/USA.

Then we'd have the Nazi party thing going with censoring of the press.

The First Amendment affords the US far greater freedom than many other countries... then again, all that ends up meaning is that most of our censorship boards are "voluntary" and enforced without laws, instead being enforced by availability (no major video game store will carry an unrated or an AO game)... which I guess is a little better, anyway?

Because "AO" is sooo different from "M", why, 18 is so many years away from 17 that it's just mind boggling.

It has "adult" in it, we can't possibly put it somewhere kids can get to!

...People actually think that way.

Except, oftentimes, they don't think.

It's like the difference between the "R" rating and the "NC-17" rating for movies, I guess?
