adelikat and others recently released FCEU X, which is, well, a merger of the two. Needless to say this will make things infinitely easier, since you can record and playback movies in areas you need to debug, and you can do it in slowdown/frame advance instead of "go" or "stop".

Homepage of FCEU X.

The Lua scripting is also very useful.

But yeah, it's nice to be able to have one emulator instead of a few dragging around when I switch tasks.

(It also will make watching speedruns a bit more interesting)

If you had been assed enough to check, you would have noticed that the Code Data Logger already works with logs produced by FCEU XD SP.

If you had been assed enough to check, you would have noticed that the About box only lists bbitmaster as helping with FCEU XD, none of the other ones.

I remember bbitmaster saying on IRC that he didn't like the way FCEU is going.

What isn't there to like?

I honestly greatly prefer this step in FCEU development, since it means all of the utilities are available at once instead of only having one at a time.

Something about the bloat it caused, the things it broke on the debugger or something, and how it was focusing only in TAS. I'll post logs asap.

Well, yeah. It wasn't supposed to break anything (I'll forward any bug reports), but "focusing on TAS" -- well, no shit. It's being developed and used primarily by TASers. It only makes sense.

Well if the debugger's broken then they can just use the XD SP version, it's not as if the release of FCEU X is preventing them from doing this.

Err... that kinda defeats the point of having a TAS emulator and an emulator in one. Not to mention that it will probably end up being better than FCEUXD in various ways sooner or later.

The Lua thing is pretty cool. And looks rather easy to use.

Maybe I'll mess around with it for a bit too...

I might as well show off some of my Lua scripting "feats".

Valkyrie no Bouken... enemies have HP bars, items are shown with what they are, money's value is displayed, inventory items show the uses remaining, new status bar that shows HP and MP, and many other things. New "character create" screen too, that shows EXP curve, starting stats, and some other things.

More here, showing some things like the process of it being created, etc. Also some fun messing with the game mode

...

I eventually plan on adding a bit more later, but we'll see...

For flavor, may as well keep the stuff surrounded by black as black instead of grey or blue.

For instance, in the first shot, below with the status bar and A and B should probably be black like the background instead of blue...just to be aesthetically pleasing...although maybe in shot two change the blue to black and leave the greys as is.

That is a limitation of FCEUX. The cutoff circles are me actually trying to make it look nicer.

For example:

- Text without anything under it is on a gray background
- Text with a color under it is drawn in a different color (e.g., blue)

The bubbles themselves look ugly as shit and I have made a feature request to enable styling of them, either by turning them off or forcing them to a certain color.

Believe me, it looks just as bad to me as it does to you.

(In fact, several areas have black lines drawn to mask out part of the text bubble because it looks so awful; the line between "Strength" and "Magic", and there's one underneath the HP bars for starting stats)

This is what you can do with Lua
