Northern Illinois just got blasted with a huge cell showing up on the radar in reds and dark reds. Rain was falling sideways, trees were pulling their impression of the palms in Miami, at least half the sheds in the town were moved and/or knocked over, basketball hoops ended up in the wrong driveways, water was flowing uphill in the ditches between driveways, and the trailer down the road flipped over and crunched the car in the driveway.

Normally I'd be on the laptop using Verizon internet, but the power's been out for a while and doesn't look like it'll be on any time soon. So instead, I'm running on generator power (propane conversion kit FTW) on my main compy and using good ol' dial-up through the phone jack that never seems to be out of juice.

The pressure never dropped, though, which is odd for severe thunderstorms. Conditions were never anywhere close to tornadic, but the winds were still fairly damaging. The best part of it all, though, was a robin I saw after the fact with its wings out to drip dry, seemingly shivering from being wet. That was funny.

Sounds like a hurricane when it hits here.

Hopefully you don't have many damages to worry about, yet given you are on the computer I doubt there is anything serious.

I don't have any damages to worry about, but I expect the neighborhood property damage to be in the hundreds of thousands. The only thing I got out of it was a clean car.

I'm in northern Illinois too, and I must say it was awesome. I went outside to watch and stood in the rain for about fifteen minutes as the thunder crashed and the lightning flashed...

I only wish it had happened during the day so I could have seen the rain better.

That sounded like a really strong storm .

At least you don't have to worry about much except the power.

I wish storms like that would hit here more often.

It's good to see that nothing of yours got damaged (though it is a bit sad to hear that it did a lot of damage around the neighborhood).

Am I the only one here who absolutely hates storms? They are unpleasant, annoying, and they knock out your power.

I only hate storms when they knock out your power.

But in Syria, my uncles house lost power once for no reason at all while we were there! Then we drove 10 minutes to my grandparents house and they had power... Then my uncle had power again the next day.

I've been a half-mile off a tornado in the last year. I pretty much say 'bring it'. If shit happens, then it happens. This is mother nature as it is, so if you're going to bite the big one, may as well do it under something that you can't do most anything about really fast.

That's what the tornado did that missed me to a car lot...

That's from when we had that major-ass flooding a few months back. Used to be a car lot there instead of five feet of water.

I'm one of those that, if I have them, will go out with a pair of binoculars just to see where the thing is if it's touched down nearby.

Generators have been sprouting up all over the place. There's no telling how many power lines are downed/tree'd

We had a nice lightning storm last night, but not anything damaging. Nice to look at while walking home from the bar.

Hey hey hey now...I lived there 21 years and I have people that don't know if it's central, western, or northern Illinois when they speak of Peoria.

Anyone got their graphing calculator handy? Let's determine the linear and surface-area classifications of regions in Illinois.

Power's back now. Yay AC! Internet's still down, though, so I'm still using that Verizon National Access stuff. Which is actually pretty good considering.

Peoria got hammered, apparently.

Mother was without power since 4:15 this morning and trees were down, places were down, ~28K people in the tri-county area didn't have power.

Apparently, that's getting fixed.
