I'm attempting to simplify a formula, but I've hit a bit of a snag. An incredibly simple snag, but I can't seem to put my finger on how to take it a step further.

I need to remove some parenthesis from part of an expression. Consider the following:

A * (B + C)
can be expressed as
A * B + A * C

However, what I need to do is take the parenthesis off of this one:

A / (B - C)

Anyone happen to know how to go about doing that?

Uh...

Following the train of logic, wouldn't it be...

A / B - A / C

?

That would equal (AC-AB)/BC, not A/(B-C)...

You would be looking towards doing Partial Fractions. My experience with this stuff is quite limited and I never really got it when I was taking calculus. But I am sure this is what you want to be doing.

The only problem with that is that if the denominator is an irreducible factor, he's kind of stuck.

Irreducible meaning that you cant use the distributive property to break it up into parts other than (B+C) and 1.

But the good news is that if it isnt, PFD is totally the way to go
