 | | Try running the PS3 versions of Linux on a 480i only TV...
Still has overscan issues on many HD sets like my current one, but big improvement anyway. I don't want black borders!

| I heard playing PsX and Ps2 games on a Ps3 can look a bit crappy.
I had planned to post on my PsP while at the asthma doctor this morning, but I was too busy to do so.

I thought PS3s without the Emotion Engine used software emulation for PS2 games? Or are there some models that aren't backwards-compatible, period?

| 40s and 20s are not backwards in any way shape or form and the new 60 and 80s that are coming out will also not be backwards compatible.
I'm just tired of all the different sizes in harddrives for the Ps3's. Its a pain telling the customers about each one and sometimes I'll get the gigs mixed up. Thanks Sony.

You're correct about the game graphics being absolute crap when emulated. It looks better on the original console by far. Edges are VERY jagged.
As for space, you can always use an external hard drive as well. I can't imagine replacing a hard drive in that thing is much of a pain either (but PROBABLY limited in size...120GB I'm guessing, which was the limit on the PS2).

It is kind of sad. You think with both the Wii and 360 having such support (Wii having near-perfect GCN support and 360 only for some games apparently) that Sony would do so for its larger library of games.
*shrugs*

 | | Wii is different. It doesn't use a co-processor or emulation, unlike virtually all other consoles and handhelds in history with backwards compatibility.
The CPU/GPU/etc clock down, and hardware not found on a real GCN gets turned off. This is why the Wii Remote or Wi-Fi can't be used. There's only a few issues, like 1019 block memory card corruption.
While the compatibility isn't as high, PS3/360 do have their benefits for games that run well. Such as better HDTV support than PS2/Xbox. Improves the look of some games. And their aspect ratio correction, means you don't have to use the TV's option to keep 4:3 ones from being stretched.
Best of all, is PS3 not needing memory cards to play older games. Makes it much more convenient for people like me with large libraries.
