I will be testing my layout here to make sure it doesn't break anything. (besides your eyes)

I will be editing the post to add the layout rather than applying it as my layout for those who have their layout options set to auto-updating.

I will just tweak it here until it works.

Yea, it might help if you reversed it. Put the inner BG outside, and replaced the inside with black.

Wow, that actually looks a lot better. Test for small post. Well, the layout works in everything except Internet Exploder, where it doesn't recognize the minimum height. That's not that big a deal, but how many people use IE anyways?

Yea, I think I do want to mix them.

What do you mean by ripped off? Me and Joe hand coded this ourselves, we didn't copy anything.

Yea I can see the double DIV style you're using. It's a base for most of the layouts here. I keep mine generally coded awkward for this reason, so I can tell if someone got mine personally.

But it's nothing too new or original for layout design...but unfortunately, there's not much better unless you start delving into things that are too heavy on eyecandy for just plain text. :\
