The site won't load, but wow, I've really missed the old Apogee games of the past. Seriously, 2D gaming needs to make a comeback, it died too soon, there's still plenty of life in it.

Anyway oh whee duke nukem forever awesome oh yeah. Still trying to load the article...

Weren't they the ones who made Word Rescue back in the day? I spent a lot of time on that game when I was very little...

And the article is slow for me as well.

Ah, finally went to read the article now that it's loading, that's great news! I just hope that the new releases have the same charm of their older counterparts.

Whoa, that's interesting/surprising. Maybe they'll remake Raptor? I still have that game...

As long as the stuff's in 2D I'm happy. Apogee were awesome publishers back in the day and they have a pretty big library of good stuff to look at porting.

Hell, even a collection of 4-5 classic games would work.

You know, this could mean a new Rise of the Triad. If you've never played it, do so immediately. It was probably one of the funniest FPSs ever.

Apogee never left. 3D Realms IS Apogee. It was originally a brand name of Apogee. The company is still called Apogee Software, Ltd. This is simply 3D Realms licensing the name to another company. So Apogee isn't back. It never left. It's just letting another company use its name.

I think most of us know that.

What is meant is that Apogee might actually be revisiting things they did back when they were Apogee and not 3DRealms.

I thought it would be obvious.

This reminds me of Atari's multiple returns...

Can one really revive a game company long after its death?

The Atari story is sad.

Selling off so many licenses is actually hurting their bottom line in the long run. That gets quick cash, yes. But then you can't go back and attempt to profit from them later.

The difference is, Atari is just a brand name and collection of trademarks now. The company died a long time ago. I doubt any material part of it remains, outside of collectors' and former employees' homes.
