I've got a 19' Tyris LCD monitor that I bought a little over two years ago. I had to send it in to be repaired right at the end of its warranty a year ago (and got it repaired for free). I'm not covered by the warranty this time, however.

I've already bought a new monitor, but I don't like the idea of having an expensive piece of equipment that still looks kinda new being thrown out. Does anyone have an idea if it's possible to manually repair the monitor at a decent price? (That is, like the price of buying the parts needed and not a whole new monitor)

The story behind my monitor's failure: I had been hearing a hissing or high pitched noise coming from the back of the monitor for a few days. Suddenly, the screen started to get darker. And darker. And then the screen went black, while the power light was still on. If I press the power button, turning it off and on, the screen will come back for about a second or two before immediately going completely black.

Your inverter board is dead. Basically, that means the florescent backlight can't get any power. dunno how reparable it is, since you'd have to get a replacement part and hope the inverter isn't built into the mainboard, which it likely is.

Yeah, you're basically boned. You can try calling up whatever manufacturer it's from and talking about it with them; some can be quite nice when it comes to repairs/replacements/discounts.

But from what it sounds like, it's dead and replacing it is either going to be extremely difficult or downright impossible.

Tch. I was really hoping I was going to wind up with a second monitor. Doing some extensive google searches didn't leave me to believe it was worth the hassle, either. Ah well.

Thanks for the respones
