Article 1 - Article 2

Yesterday, in the Viacom v. Google litigation, the federal court for the Southern District of New York ordered Google to produce to Viacom (over Google's objections):

all data from the Logging database concerning each time a YouTube video has been viewed on the YouTube website or through embedding on a third-party website

All I can say is I hope the next judge this is in front of has a brain.

Just what we needed. Further proof that America isn't run by the government, but by the big corporations that fund their campaigns.

I'll laugh if the --AAs try to use this to sue everyone who's been watching 'their' movies on the Internet. Mass lawsuits ftw!

The entire government and legal system of the country is based strictly around financial gain of corporations. There is no justice anymore. We're only able to simply exist now because they allow it. No citizens equals no profit.

This is just stupid.

Why did the judge force Google to give Viacom their data just for a statement that may or may not be true? All that was really required here was for Google to pay back the damages, to have the infringing videos taken down, and to have the infringing users punished. If this case came through, then why doesn't everyone with a copyrighted video start filing lawsuits as well?

I thinkn it's absurd. All those terabytes of logs.. is that something that can be sorted with relevant information that easily? It'll take a lot of time and money to look through all that information.

I feel ashamed to say that on my next trip to Youtube after hearing about this caused me to immediately close the window. I eventually forgot about the paranoia after running into some random caramel dansen video.

We just need to rally the Youtubers and (counter-?)sue Viacom for some sort of invasion of privacy thing.

According to an article in the newspaper, Viacom seems to have stated that they'll accept Google's request to remove personally identifying information... though it was rather vague and could have been a misquote.

It's getting obvious that the government is really getting stupid now.

How could a judge just blow off the privacy of people? I just don't know.

There should at least be a judge with a brain next time...

Interesting, Intelligent, and delightful. There is where some of the intelligence in the government has leaked to.

edit: Unfortunately, my typoness will never leak somewhere else.
