Lazy lazy Nintendo programmers... Here's to a, one day, optimized LA. May not be the most interesting thing since it will be exactly the same, but maybe it will reduce some lag when too many items are loaded.

It's hardly just about that any more, it's interesting to see the original ideas for levels that got covered...

Besides, fuck optimizing it (except as a boredom reliever), if we figured this out, EDITING!

Honestly, if I had the knowledge of a more interactive system than PHP (e.g., C++) I could theoretically code a fairly decent editor with the knowledge I have now, that would cover overworlds.

(Nephi only does dungeons, and only on 1.0; my data is for 1.2)

I encountered a lot of cover-up when hacking The Lemmings Chronicles. Whole regions, passageways, items, the works... Covered up with solid blocks, never to be seen again. You'd be surprised how much disk space is wasted that way. To think I used three floppies to install that sucker!

I've heard Pokemon G/S/C have countless unused maps. Crystal even still has Gold's Japanese SGB border in its code, which a very small number of emulators can view properly.

Room FF in Underworld 2 has a sprite in it. It acts just like the Raft Owner.


At one point this must have been a real room and not a crashing hell.

This is the first room I've built completely from a hex editor. Not that it was, you know. Hard.

0002fe01 - 00 0d 68 be e0 00 a2 50 60 fe

Animation/template/floor-tile - 00 animation, 0 template (square room), D floor tile (standard floor)
68 BE - staircase object
Warp data - Takes you to the outside of Marin's house (+/- a few pixels)

Kind of neat, and a nice place to use for testing sprites (Now if they'd just appear correctly...)

(If you're wondering, the space room FF is supposed to be in is completely zeroed out, so it's basically 512 bytes of free space for me to fuck around in)

Oh, it gets better:


It's a Heart Container!... except if you touch it the game crashes. Wonderful. Oh, you can also kill it with your sword and bounce off it if you have the shield out.


Using Magic Powder on it sets it on fire and... gives it to you!


The music even starts playing and everything. Bizarre.
