I fail to see the point in this, do companies really need custom TLD suffixes?

I think it's fine as it has been up until now, I even feel that we already have a lot of suffixes that are just unnecessary as it is ((ab)using .tv for television things, or .info or whatever)

The pricing of over $100k for one seems odd to me, too, but I guess it'll prevent random people from messing with these new guidelines..

Making harder to remember where thigns are on the internet. Was that .Xwa? or .Xma?

Those suffixes have never stood for what they're actually supposed to stand for, they're just generic internet suffixes (maybe in the early history of the internet...).

(Also: The article specifically mentions that the arbitrators can resolve domain squatting incidents. I could imagine they could deal with phishing sites.)

But at least without the custom tlds, there's a list to try and we know that one of them will eventually work. I don't want to try an infinite number of suffixes if I forget.

Well there shouldn't be that much of a problem. You can:
• search google
• check browser history
• type in part of the url into the address bar and look at the auto-complete options
Between those three, the issue will rarely, if ever, come up at all.

I think a lot of the problem will be resolved simply because
- They're not something you can just buy; they have to be reviewed first
- They cost $100,000
- It has to be a big-name corporation, random Joe Nobody can't go buying one

Among this, from what I got out of it, they have to be able to do everything associated with a TLD, not just buy a name.
