Had a 12 with Turbo here of a 286.

Dunno what it has to do with Firefox 3 though.

Haha, knuck's pretty good at derailing topics it seems.

Anyway, trying to get everyone to download it on the same day probably isn't the best idea, because that'll overload the bandwidth if they have 1mil people all downloading at once.

I would think that, with this amount of preparation ahead of time, they're already being smart about that.

Who knows...it's due out like...now. (June 17).

Yeah, I suppose they'll limit bandwidth usage per IP or something similar.

Who knows...it's due out like...now. (June 17).
Still 1hr 50mins to go here on the west coast of the US.

Should be out within the next few minutes. The release is set for noon CST.

EDIT: LMFAO! The site is totally dead and refuses to load.

I'm trying to hit the front page directly and I that is failing for me for some reason. I guess because too many people are hitting that page right now

If it wasn't for your link, I wouldn't be able to download firefox at an awesome 2.5KB/s. It reminds me of the good old dialup days. At the same time, I am downloading XP-SP3 at 121KB/sec... So, it can't be my internet connection. It has to be because firefox is so damn popular

Yes, the Firefox server seems to be getting crushed.. I managed to get through, and am using Firefox 3 now... not sure how much I like the "awesome bar", but I suppose I'll get used to it.

"awesome bar"? Oh, no. What is that, pray tell?

They've redesigned the list of sites that pops up when you start typing in the address bar... each entry is larger including the title and the favicon, and it shows sites with part of the name not actually at the beginning (say, if I type in "google", "news.google.com" will also show up)... I think the problem is more a transition one- initially when I typed in "jul" it had the history from Firefox 2, but just showed a bunch of random threads as the top entries, none of them the main page. After going to the main page a few times, though, it shows up as the top entry again.

Just downloaded the .exe and deleted it. I'll be upgrading through the in-browser updater, except it's not working so well at the moment...

Uh.

Please tell me you can disable it.

Yes, you can disable it, although you have to go to about:config to do it. Change "browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped" to true, and then it'll act like the old address bar.

The dropdown list of entries still looks the same as the "awesomebar" list, though. Only the behavior changes.

The go button does not stay by the url-bar also, to fix it..

C:\Documents and Settings\[Winxp Logon]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[Profile Name]\chrome

In chrome, add or edit userChrome.css and add
#urlbar[pageproxystate="valid"] > #urlbar-icons > #go-button { visibility: visible !important;
}

My love affair with Firefox is quickly coming to an end.

In short, should I bother getting this? Is it that big a good difference over FF2? I'm perfectly happy with what I have now but I'll upgrade if it's worth it.

Opera has both, arguably better than FF3.

(I check the security pages for each; Firefox often has a few holes, Opera has less or none at all)

It's an alternative if you want to try something else.

How to fix the 'awesome' bar back to FF2's version.

Why it can not be done in options is beyond me. (The same thing for that stupid zoom blurring.)

Zoom blurring - that's the one "feature" of FF3 that I absolutely hate. Do you know of any way to disable it? I've looked around a bit and haven't found any fix yet...
