Picked up Star Fox 64 again today, and made two fairly good advancements.



The first one was one I was aiming for in particular: getting to Sector Z. Used the warp point at Sector X after a few retries and realizing just how to do it.

I was surprised at Sector Z's difficulty... it was pretty easy. Probably that way for pretty much anyone, huh.

Second advancement... I didn't expect this one. Got a medal on Venom, as you can see. I was surprised at the speed Star Wolf went down -- I even managed to take down Wolf in the first 30 seconds or so, eliminating the hassle of being shot at later on. Everyone's shields were high, except Falco's... But he usually doesn't get hurt at all during that fight. Worried a bit about Slippy (wait what), though. So once I had taken down Star Wolf with all 50-hit bonuses, the medal was in the bag.

So now I can mess around in multiplayer with the Landmaster... It'd be a bit cool to invite a few friends over and duke it out there.

Soul Nomad on and off again... parts of it are just turning into "sit at the starting point, constantly end turn and wait for them to come to me" battles.

Grinding in "Inspections" is starting to get very old, as well, with random completely unbeatable Room "Tyrants" that can kill any progress outright... if it wasn't for those, I'd be a lot more okay with it.

Oh, that and the total lack of extra rooms. Having only 5 at this point in the game (desert map 3 with 12 of those annoying fade-out things) is getting to feel very cramped...


Oh, that and the fact you can just buy new characters at whatever level you want, making leveling them completely pointless. Yay!

I'd agree about the battles, a lot of them are just "here's a dozen enemy squads, kill them all", not to mention some maps have more coming after a few turns ... and watching them fade out one by one can be annoying as well You're on this map, right?


But for the rest:

- Stay at low enough enemy levels in room inspections, since the room sentries/tyrants (and a few other special enemies) are always much higher than the rest, inspect the different rooms until they're all too high then change

- You'll eventually get 9 rooms to use, but even 5 should be enough, I only used 3 squads through most of the game

- You can buy characters at any level (up to the hero's), yes, but they only get 80% of the stat gains that way Still useful, though, I remember making a squad full of new leveled characters near the end and it was instantly my best ...

Yea...but at that point you can afford to buy a plethora of level 9999 Gideons and it doesn't matter what they can do because they're uber anyways.

As for me...I really only have three or so rooms, and two of them are just for support and are the blue rooms with Blitzkrieg on them so I can summon them at a moment's notice. You can make them whatever you want to help out, but I'd focus on the main unit more than most.

The support ones that you summon at a moment's notice should have something special about them after they go right after you. A Blitzkrieg healer unit, for starters, might be a good idea if you're worried about taking it up the ass for damage, since that might save your ass if things get messy and you lose your healer in your squad (which is generally what happens). Sometimes, even having a healer-and-that's-it group in a Crime Scene room by himself is a smart way to go. Give him something that boost his stats for being the only one there (there something that boost shit by 100% by being leader and by himself and 50% if his health is 40% for Cornered Shot) and you'll notice that he doesn't die...or at least easily. I CONSTANTLY have problems taking out units that are like this...even IF I have a double-heart affinity over killing them. If you can't hit them, there's no dice for helping. Dancers are NOTORIOUS for pissing me off this way.

That also mentioned, Dancers are good as well since there a move one gets from being the leader that allows your team to move instantly afterwards. If you get to a point where you and the last enemy are deadlocked and you almost-but-not-quite kill him, summon a Blitz-Dancer group in to go next, have her use that technique, then go again and finish the job.

There are a lot of ways to pull yourself from the gutter if you look for them in this game.

While my Backloggery says it, I feel like explaining them...

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, I just got last Sunday using my $5 off coupon given to those who got Darkrai last weekend. It's a lot freakin' harder than the last games, that's for sure. Death comes easily, and healing items are in short supply. TMs seem to be much more plentiful, however, and it seems very easy to gain thousands of... whatever the monetary system of this game is.

For the record, I'm a Chimchar, and chose Turtwig as my partner.

Now, on to Diablo II. I got the urge to start playing this last week, and have been trying to get some people at another forum to join me in a session. I finally succeeded today (by planning it out ahead of time, no less). My character is a Paladin of level 19, and I've completed 1/3 of Act II with him (Quests 1 and 3, also, I have my cube and staff). We got 3+ hours in, and I've been sitting here at my computer for about 8-9 hours now...

If anybody wishes to try their hand in Diablo II with me, either PM me, or if enough people want to, I can actually make a thread about it (it would be easier to synchronize schedules that way, anyways...). I don't expect anybody to want to play, but I still thought I should put out the offer.

And... that's about it for the games I've been playing. Been playing OpenTTD off and on recently, but haven't picked it up for a week or two.

Let's see...

NFL Football 94 (GEN), one of the few sports games I like (along with RBI Baseball (NES) and maybe some others). Actually fairly advanced for its day, and a blast to abuse the glitches with "Beginner" difficulty (115 to 14? Oh yes.)


Go Go Burrito!!, a goofy hack that takes a ROM I found on the internet that gave Mario super speed and invincibilty, and adds a new font and timer countdown to make things a little more interesting (albeit not much, but I keep fiddling with it)


Soul Nomad, around map 20 ... progress is just slow as usual, really.

So, I finally got all 15 medals. Sector Y was somewhat difficult, but I managed to pull through with exactly 150 hits. The last one was Sector Z...

That was hell. Slippy and Falco kept taking my missles, causing me to come short by 5-10 hits. That wasn't fun. Got through that eventually with 112 hits.

So, on my final standard run, I got 1263 hits. Looks like I'll be playing Expert now... though I doubt I'll actually aim to get the medals any time soon. I heard that any direct collisions causes a wing to be lost (which means loss of laser upgrades), plus the damage itself is quite fatal.

I tend to crash into things, so... yeah. I'm a bit screwed.

Grand Chase.

What is this me playing an MMO? Yes...

However so far it is the only one to attract my attention for more than one day and it takes up less space too (about 700mb with latest patches vs two-five gigs (O2Jam took a hell of a lot)). And it isn't a point-click-watch MMO either. It is sort of a fighter meets RPG kind of thing. You can attack, rack up the combo, then finish with a good special move and then in the end (depending on how you hit things or if you get hit) you'll get double experience plus more bonuses for completing the mission. Sure, it is limited, but I tend to usually play alone, and this allows me to play alone easily (with lower experience gain, though). Least I have some people I play with.

So... yeah. It may not be the best MMO and it definitely isn't that deep, but it is actually fun for me so whatever.

Other than that from time to time, Stepmania and Disgaea 2 still. I brought my PS2 over to my aunt's here and that is the only game I brought with it. That is all I play on it anyway. Managed to reincarnate my mage again and now if I keep doing the leveling he'll have a base INT of over 100 everytime. What a monster!

Disgaea 2 still again.

This time I've managed to clear the Land of Carnage Cave of Ordeals 4 a few times. Now my mage is right at 4000 and Adell is 3600. I'm also leveling up my items a lot more while gaining residents. I need more marksmen for my thief so she can level up in LoC CoO4 as well.

This game keeps getting deeper and deeper and I can't help but continue playing it over and over.

Also the battle system is very... odd. It sort of reminds me of Advance Wars in a sense.

I'll have to tweak things around once I figure out why my PS2 controller randomly stops responding every minute and rumbles for no reason...

Busy playing Dragon Quest Monsters Joker. Somehow rather addictive. Not quite ready to take on C rank monsters, still too strong. I'm trying to obtain more.
