..And what honestly makes them think people will actually be stopped by outlawing P2P?

Everytime it's just the same thing ...

Some politician goes and tries to outlaw something like P2P and later, everyone completely forgets about it and it all ends up in failure... It just never works...

Something tells me that some politicians only do this to try to get further in their stand in politics ...

I'll see that article and raise it with this.

Yeah, our government's going nuts. This one's gonna head to the Supreme Court of Canada for sure in the near future.

I'm more interested how much will this harm lawful things, for example World of Warcraft (?) uses P2P while downloading game patches.

Anyways, I doubt it will work in the end.

You know, I really don't think it's possible to outright outlaw an internet method. I just don't think it can be done.

Other provisions in the bill, which is said to be tabled to the House of Commons tomorrow afternoon, will include measures to make it illegal to unlock cellphones or copy music from protected CDs to iPods as well as making it illegal to copy "time shifted" shows onto personal video recorders if flagged by broadcasters.

Illegal to unlock cellphones?

I mean, the rest of the bill sucks, but this just seems overly restricted; I mean, it's something you paid for, so you should be able to do whatever the fucking hell you want to with it (within reason).

(To that end I can really only hope somebody with a functioning frontal lobe nixes the DMCA from over here)

Drag's Post #756
I get the distinct feeling that this will end up just like all of the other internet-restricting bills.

Lots of hype, lots of worry, it turning out to fall flat on its face...

On that unlocking cell-phones tip...there are ways to yank free service doing that.

Oh and some of you've seen Live Free or Die Hard, I'm sure...

Well, this is another reason why #2's still dying a little more every day. Pretty soon if you read something on a site you haven't effectively subscribed to it'll be considered illegal and punishable by 6 million dollars for illegal attempt at knowledge.

Oh well...we'll all be robots eventually. WE ARE THE BORG RESISTENCE IS FUTILE.

Genie's out of the bottle. Doing this will probably just cause it to become popular.

This is something I agree with. Along with Kles, I just don't see how it could work. Although I don't think it'll work like prohibition. Alcohol and the internet don't have much in common, and people who weren't already into this sort of thing will probably be rather oblivious to the law anyway.
