Heyyyy keeedz...huhuhuhaha!~

Yea okay.

So I was wondering if anyone heard the news about this game or moreover that the date got pushed back FOR THE FOURTH TIME as of today. It is now coming out on the third of June INSTEAD of the 5/13/2008 date that it was meant to head out into stores. I've already pre-ordered it in full, to be delivered. With this merger overkill SRPG with a plethora of characters from such games as Growlanser, Shadow Hearts, Gungrave, Spectral Force and a bunch of others...you'll be sure to find something to love in this...if'n you know these series in question.

Very rarely do you see these stateside. I'm SURE I mentioned this thread at some point but I can't seem to find it...

Well at least it has a cover now. They're making progress! Maybe by the time the next delay happens, they'll have screens!

Well...there's been yet another change...

This time it's been bumped UP. It's now slated for May 30th. This Friday.

"Suprise! It's actually released tomorrow."

Sounds like... fun?

Well, let us know how it is, at least

Yea, I'll probably end up getting it delivered here, since I've already paid for it.

EDIT: Checked Gamestop. It's now showing 'Ships within 24 hours'.

Hey guys.

IT'S NOW BACK-ORDERED!

What the hell? Seriously. However, I checked my bank account this morning and the game's payment has now been taken out...so maybe I'll hear about it today or tomorrow like I was planning.

Yeah, from what I saw it seems that if they took your cash, you're getting a copy. Problem is that I'm guessing this is an EXTREMELY limited release. :\ Might need a second run (which is good for the publisher at least).

From what I've read, early impressions are that the game's not too shabby but the English VA is hilariously AWFUL - thankfully, you can switch to Japanese VA if you wish.

(And the ISO's out but I'm not touching it yet - nobody can get it to work. :\ Sounds like a bad image.)

Really? Damn. They must've sucked on their call-outs for help this time around. Aside from a few 'ehs', in the Growlanser series the voice acting was actually pretty good.

[listens to English VAs for a good 5 minutes]

... ... ... ...

[restarts game all over in Jap VA mode]

It's so bad it hurts. This is like...Castle Shikigami II bad in terms of VAing. At least the Jap VA sounds worth a shit...I guess they REALLY didn't get the good voice actors back.

Yes, I saw the link to that while browsing GF's board on it.

Though there is some merit to the fact that there are Jap VAs in it and subtitles...the subtitles are inaccurate to some extent. Call it basic knowledge of some Japanese words and timing...but I know when a script isn't quite a script after hearing blabbed Japanese for 10 or so years (even if I don't entirely understand the language). They shortened it at their ease of expense.

However, this doesn't take away from the actual game content. Music's halfway catchy and the Jap VAs ARE very well done. The battle system itself is like a general NIS (Makai Kingdom, Disgaea and Phantom Brave come to mind here) system plus original twist hybrid. That's about the only way I can put it but it does a good job at showing possible depth.

I will say that there is some GREAT stuff in that there's an Encyclopedia sitting right next to the 'Gate' that controls going through the story and progressing the actions of the game. This Encyclopedia tells everything you need to know about the system, sure, but it also goes in-depth on everything about the CHARACTERS and that which are related to them (which I'll explain in a sec), whether they're from the original game concept or if they're being taken from another game and the characters, stories, techniques and other miscellaneous quirks about them related to said characters.

For instance, where I'm at now, there's three characters in my crew at the end of chapter 1 that are original and another is from Spectral Souls 2 (Hiro, for those interested). Said encyclopedia gives a decent summary on Hiro, her Gate of Heaven (a grim-reaper-like scythe), the 'Realize' skill or skill claimed to be the signature used in this game which can only be accessed through said Realize skill and pictures of said character. [spins finger]

Also, when characters from other games are unlocked in Profiles, you get more information about games they're from under 'Production' in the Dictionary portion of the Encyclopedia which tells a little bit about the game and Character information of, as I said, other characters relating to said character and the backstories behind them.

The monsters are also either original or pulled from other games as well. You can see this information in the Dictionary as well.

All in all, BAD first impression with the sound and localization department. Otherwise, if you give it just 20 minutes, the system is actually worth the time and continues to get deeper as the game progresses. I just wish those involved with the localization would've done a 'better than deplorable' job...but then these kind of games are considered to be pioneered state-side at best so I should probably be thankful that any work was done to it at all.

Hell, I even heard Canada was supposed to not get this.

I would have to check about the Canada thing. There *IS* a relatively new GameStop about 10 minutes away from me and odds are if any place around here would have the game, it's them. (I've only been in there once - it's pretty big.)

That said, the indications are that this isn't coming out here which justifies me downloading it - once a *fixed* ISO comes out. For God's sake, groups can't rip PS2 games properly anymore?

At least the game mechanics sound good.

I quote from someone also playing it on BackLoggery:

'Thank god there is a Japanese language option. THANK. GOD. Sounds like they hired the rejects from the Siren auditions.'

And how.

I'll have to get a shot or a vid up but...

Grave has his own anime cut-scene when you do his special. Grave as in Grave from Gungrave.

Already found Carmine (and fairy Tipi) earlier in the game (spelled out: GROWLANSER). Very good. Already opened up quite a few games in terms of characters from them and I'm only in Act 3. Heck, one of them was a freaking dating game...

Karen sounds stoned.

Like I said earlier, I listened to about five minutes of the beginning and restarted it all over in Japanese VAs. Even the translation is piss poor.

I just can't bring myself to watch that video, because, well...

Microsoft Sam would have made a better VA than those lot combined.
I value my ears.

Ouch.
