That's probably due to the Nintendo DS's lower resolution (32x56 sprites on a 256x192 screen? right) and lack of antialiasing, pretty much everything that uses 3D or scaling on it looks like this ...

Then again, the main number font was 10x7 (but stretched vertically in game, so 10x14 really) and simple enough, I'm sure they could have done a better 8x8 (or smaller) than this ... unless it's only temporary, but I doubt it

The 606MB I said for sound also includes the voices (both Japanese and English), I forgot how much of it was those though ... if they're kept in, they'll probably have to be downsampled a bit

Isn't the limit for a cart 256MB but hasn't gone past the 128MB mark yet?

Or is it 512, 256?

Yes, but the hardware can support something like 1-4GB, just no carts for it yet. I forget the actual number, but Hyperhacker would know.

Edit: Also, in earlier screenshots, there were smushed sprites and some heavier compression on textures. They seemed to have made it better as seen here.

(well, semi on-topic)

NIS America had their E3-ish presser the other day...

- Disgaea 3 (PS3, August)
- Disgaea DS (DS, September)
- Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (DS, September)
- A Witch's Tale (DS, October?)

...well that's a lot of DS support.

A Witch's Tale is apparently an Action-RPG game. Trailer has a nice story but is entirely devoid of gameplay. HitMaker are the developers.

Rhapsody DS will have the original Japanese songs since Atlus probably has the rights to all the English dubs.

Disgaea DS is out in Japan at the end of the month so there really won't be a lot of turn-around time on that release... roughly the same with Rhapsody as well. If nothing else, NIS America's doing a great job timeframe-wise.

Spectral Souls 3 is due out for XBOX 360 as well...which hasn't been stateside as far as I know...but then I haven't checked out the one after 2 and before 3 that came out in '04 (forget the name).

I think they were all Japan-only before this. 2 was on the PS.

I actually checked on Spectral Souls for the PSP a while ago, and the only thing I can say about the game is that it feels like Valkyrie Profile all over again:

- Graphics left completely untouched
- Gameplay left completely unimproved
- Interface left completely alone

So the end result is that you basically get a (bad) PS1 game with fancy cinema scenes. Even the cutscenes are complete crap... I really wanted to like the game, but it's just impossible with how bad it is...

(who knows, maybe the 360 one won't suck ass, but I'm not touching it)

I've been following the developments of this game since I first heard there was going to be a DS version. The official website has been updated quite a bit over the last month. I agree with Colin as far as time -- the website went up at the beginning of March I believe, and soon the game will be released (in Japan). I'll most likely be picking this up.

See, the one thing about Spectral Souls PSP is this: It is hard. Really hard. Very, insanely, beyond-Fire Emblem-like hard. So hard, in fact, that CWCheat actually doesn't help much in terms of speeding up the gameplay. And don't even get me started on the post-game. The path to get the true ending is completely unintuitive and it is VERY easy to fuck up the order, which is a pain especially since the game is so damn long (8 chapters, 5-7 battles each times three armies), not to mention that it requires you to win against impossible odds many times, starting as early as the second battle of Saulve Bastion near the start

GameFAQs isn't much help, either; the only FAQ there is the True Ending guide, which is full of holes and fails to explain important stuff, such as where to find the optional secret maps (which are also required for the true ending). The only thing that made me want to play this through to the end was the story, which is surprisingly well thought out, even if the translation is horrid.

Actually, I thought Spectral Souls just sucked completely, with no redeeming factors.

The gameplay was absolute garbage and it felt like a cheap port with flashy cutscenes added to make it look like it was updated.
