I had the Mario/Duck Hunt pack as my first real video game. I think that I played the old Commodore computer first though. I should have 2 of the game and watch things somewhere... I got one at a thrift store. I also got a really cool giant Donkey Kong doll for much less then Nintendo charges in the catalog.

First post I can find at Acmlm's incarnation 1. Not bad. I was more into emulation and rom hacking back then. It's the reason I'd joined. But not why I'm here now, as I implied earlier.

Amazing the email address I used at I1 is still my main one. And the geocities page started back then remains viewable too. Although no longer updated, since I moved on to experiment with better hosting last year.

My first post was at the UltraHLE forum, in September 1999 when I was 16 and had just gotten Internet access ... it's long gone now but archived here :
N64 on a 200MHz Pentium ...
I only have a 200 MHz Pentium with a 2D 4 Mb video card and 32 Mb RAM.
I still tried Nintendo 64 emulation (with UltraHLE) on my computer, just for fun ! ...
I tried to run Mario 64 on it and it works (I'm surprised), although it's slow (and sound cuts) ... about 5-10 images per second.
However, it is still playable, but there's some minor graphic errors (for example, Mario's face at title screen is all dark, and Princess Toadstool has 3 mouths and a big eye near her neck). Is it normal?
Also, I tried to run Mario Kart 64 and it doesn't seem to work well, although it SHOULD do. Why?
Is it because of my video card? Please answer me.
This one wasn't bad, but I did post some stupid crap within a few days or weeks (I was a newbie, after all) ... then there was this, which I even updated weekly for a long time

About a year later, I was active at a few boards and ran my site, and soon AcmlmBoard

I don't know what the first post elsewhere was. I'd gotten online sometime in 2000, perhaps around 6 months to a year before joining Acmlm.

The first post I ever made on a forum was this one, at the 2nd incarnation in mid 2005:

Yo, indeed. I've been reading posts at this board for months now, and only just now became brave enough to register . I'm mostly interested in the ROM Hacking section, as I'm a terminal video game addict. I don't expect to post much anywhere else, really. My complete lack of a life makes the Internet great!

Haha, I think I ran out of things to say here.

Oh, and by the way: BMF is God.

Mostly I became less hyper over time. Also no one knows who I am anymore.
Also wow, was I ever bad at roleplaying.
Also wow, was I ever proud of that mediocre SMW hack.
Also I found this gem, from a few months later, in the "regional misconceptions" thread:

Tartarus:

It doesn't really take nine days and nine nights for a bronze anvil to fall here from Earth. We tried an experiment, and it got here in just over 56 hours, 23 minutes. So take that.

It's not nearly as dank and gloomy here as you might have heard anymore, but we keep a visitor's center open with hecatoncheires, bronze gates, and the like, just for the look of the thing. Seriously, we have electric lights and the Internet too, we're not really all that backwater.

On the other hand, it is a bit crowded here. The Titans take up quite a bit of room, and of course, no one who comes here ever leaves, so we have a big housing problem most of the time.

And everyone seems to think this place is some kind of... Hell or something. Seriously, Rhadymanthus is a kinder judge these days, and hardly ever does anyone actually do anything to get punished for anyway. However, we are kind of traditionalists, so once a year we have a competition to see how fast people can roll rocks up hills, then let them tumble down again. It's a great event, and we usually have fireworks afterwards.

All in all, it's a great place to live, and I don't really mind being damned here for eternity. Come visit sometime!

hahaha. Good times.

Alright, I have finally decided to join up here. I've been visiting these fourms for ages...but never joined. I thought there were too many people here. But since I know must of you, temptation got the best of me. And I actually changed my name. So guess who I am!!! ((like that's hard to do!))

Acmlm: Can you do me a big favor! My name looks really bad how it is, could you change it for me with spaces like this: Hymn of Saturn or if you cannot, make it like this: Hymn_of_Saturn. It just looks bad like that.

BTW: I am female, 21 years old and living in South Florida.

And I'n getting tired..it's 3am here...I sure picked a great time to join up!!

My very first post online was on NSider, which I cannot find because the forums no longer exist. However, i did find my first one on an Acmlm's Board:

Hello all.

I would like to be approved for the SMW/Pokémon Hacking boards (mostly the Mario one). I may be a newcomer at this board, but don't think, 'just another noob' because of that. I have lots of experience at other forums, such as Nintendo NSider forums, Quest For Freedom forums and Samus.co.uk forums. I've been at the NSider forums for almost a year now and the people I know there recognize me as an intelligent member of the community. Though, I'm not just a serious person 24/7 I joke around with my friends there too.

I'm interested in hacking because it allows me to make video games my way. I play a game sometimes and think, "Wouldn't it have been cool if..." and then I think about how I would have done something. By hacking, I can fulfill those ideas and create something that, at the very least, I'll enjoy playing. I have one SMW hack in progress and a (cancelled) Super Metroid hack too.

I'd like to be able to learn more about how to hack SMW and eventually create a totally unique hack of my own. Right now, my hack is just a basic level re-vamp.

Please consider approving me to the boards!

Thanks,

FirePhoenix0

Not bad. I think I came off intelligent enough. However, I used a red bold font and HyperHacker yelled at me for it.

Back to the topic, I agree with the majority here. It doesn't matter how old you are, you just need to have a serious interest in whatever it is you're posting for.

Though, it can be a little strange to see an older person posting with younger people.

This was my first post at The PokeCommunity. Not too dumb, all things considered, and I'm surprised it's still there

This is my first post at Sonic Retro (then SWS2B)...
... *sob* GOD those first posts were horrible. I think if I'd been like that NOW I'd be relegated to "the stereotypical MySpace tard" status. ;.;

Mine was about some SPC to WAV thing that Adamant asked about and that led to bad grammar, spelling, capitalization and bad signatures.

Yea, it helps to have experience.

I begin to feel strangely old myself, as people turn in confusion when I start rattling off how in 1998, Flash didn't exist and we all browsed relatively puny webpages and all the styling information was directly in the HTML and imagemaps and frames were the rage.

I'm not kidding; I horribly suck at it, and when I do try to change events, chances are that I'll screw up the whole game.

So basically, I'm a decent level editor, but a horrible hacker.

First post I made on an Acmlm-related board, during the third incarnation. It was something about how you'd rate yourself concerning SMW hacking

(Note the "creative level designs," the credibility of that segment is low. Way, way low.)

I guess I seemed on par at that time, but you could say that things went downhill from there.

I had just turned 17 (about a month earlier) when I joined the original Acmlm's, and my first post looked like this:

A level called the top secret area appears on the ladder down from #4 Ludwig's Castle. I wan't it remnoved!! Mario can't walk past it, and when I enter it it's just an everlasting bonus level.

[First post here.] Notice how I posted it at the end of someone elses thread, aswell.

Pretty dumb post. Shows how little I knew about hacking, and about trying things out (such as exploring the program, Lunar Magic) before asking silly questions.

And back then, I sometimes made myself look dumber than I was, such as the typo in 'remnoved' and the two exclamation marks. I suppose it was/is some kind of inferiority complex. I don't know why, but I would often not show what I knew, but instead pretend I didn't know things, only to ask about them.

Hmm.. it probably stems from not really having any kind of self-confidence. I see that now...

Everything is a matter of taste. Forums just provide another means of communication, but do not need to replace something else instead (if you're watching the brand-new thrilling movie in that comfortable cinema seat, while eating popcorn, you wanna move your elbow to your partner and say something like "Cool!" - instead of watching the movie on a computer and sending an ICQ message to your friend).

It might true that younger people join the internet - and participate in social life that way too. An old geezer might have problems with that fast-changing life while others simply adapt to it and utilize the advantages of our life, centered in information (and disadvantages - see cell phones: Availability everywhere and -time, unless you turn that damn thing off).
I see now problem with older people. It doesn't concern me if someone is like 35 and posts in a PKMN-forum or something ... see, I'm 27 years old, I know about Lunar Magic - but even people who know that never said something. Or do you HAVE to be that person, who has to play first person shooters or has to leave the forum when their age exceed 25 years?

As we grow and gain experience in life, we also change some attitudes. When I got my first own computer back in 2001, I already was late, knowing people had computers and the internet long back before (only knew the some basic DOS commands and such before), but my personal taste is about disliking something on the web, I simply ignore it and never open that page again.

Pretty sure the first place I registered on was starmen.net...
First I3 post: [quoteI had a long conversation with him... I didnt know he was so stupid!
If anyone wants, i'll put up the text file. It's funny!

My other posts look quite stupid. And my layouts got stupid and weird. And rather unreadable. But it seems I still had the ability to make strange posts that make you go "Hmm..." in that confused way. And I made a shitload of references to Earthbound. Strange. Oh yeah, it looks like I got emotional about the board too.
Well, that's all behind me now. I suppose that wasn't really me anyway, as I'm a different person now. Woo.

My first post lies somewhere on this crappy message board. I don't have time to look through all 17 posts I made to find out which one was made first because although they're all pretty crappy. Back then my user name wasn't Higsby it was Mike Jones (it was the main character's name from the video game Startropics). I still use that user name on the new Startropics although I use Higsby just about everywhere else .

I honestly can't believe how long it's been since posting on that board. Thinking about also brings back memories of Acmlm's old site for some reason .
