Though I read on Geek, which is down for the article, that there's already been an OEM order on it, Engadget goes further in on it, explaining that it may be out as early as September.

Call me surprised since I didn't expect Microsoft to pick up on this one.

Heard about this one months ago. It was just a matter of time, really.

Well, I had heard rumors but the fact it hit it off with OEM orders just recently (within the last few days) pretty much confirms it...

I don't think it's that odd; after all, Sony was partially behind regular CDs as well, so any sort of "boycotting" Blu-ray by them would be kind of strange (when their OSes came on CDs) ...

It's a bit strange because they used HD-DVD, but it would make sense to change over so they don't get left behind...

Considering how Blu-ray utterly annihilated HD-DVD in several different market segments, it isn't much of a surprise. Many people only think of that being a movie format war.

But Blu-ray also won over HD-DVD in other things. Millions of PS3 Blu-ray games sold, opposed to zero commercial HD-DVD game releases on any platform. And retailers of data storage products generally sided with Blu-ray. Although HD-DVD burners/blanks were available for a short time.
