This guy must have it worse...

I find it ironic in the kid's name. It's reverse of what it should've been.

D:

What...how do you mistake a 9-year-old kid for a turkey? Shouldn't he have made sure his son was close by, AND that what he was aiming at was indeed a turkey, before pulling the trigger? Was he just blinded by the thrill of the hunt?

This is just one reason why I'm not too fond of the "sport."

Because accidents happen? I guess if you want to feel safe we can get you a padded room. We'll even give you a straight jacket and chain you to the wall to make sure you don't accidentally hurt yourself.

I think it's more around the lines of guns killing beings for game more than feeling safe. I'm no psych, though.

It's a subtle reference to reality coated in my special brand of satire. Guns kill animals, fly swatters kill animals. Gotta pick and choose what's ethical!

Though that's drifted from the topic. What's a better question is how one can mistake a child for a turkey.

Something tells me he was a little too quick on the trigger. He saw something moving, his hunting instincts fired off "OMG TURKEY!", the adrenaline rush shot straight to his finger, and...well, now his kid's dead.

Just a guess.

I don't like the sport because there are too many boneheads out there who don't follow critical safety procedures. Even our own vice president shot a guy in the face, remember? Granted, any sport can be dangerous if you don't follow the rules, but getting hit in the chest with a football doesn't have quite as high of a mortality rate as getting hit in the chest with a shotgun.

How could one mistake their own son for a turkey of all things?

This is one reason why I dislike dangerous activities like this...with all the stupid people wandering around nowadays, you never know what could happen. D:

Thanks for condensing and repeating everything I just said. I was afraid I was a bit too verbose there.

My only take on it is one of two things:

Either it was a ploy to kill the kid...or it was just he was too thrilled with 'the hunt' to really notice it was his son he was shooting. I mean that's why you do some target practice with NPC targets as well that you DON'T shoot a few times before you wield a gun like Tailgunner Joe or Barney Fife.

What I said may have been the same as what you said, but it demonstrates that my opinion on this is the same as yours.

He may have repeated you, but that just shows you're both thinking the same thing.

Yeah that will really fuck up a family. Could you imagine being in the mother or fathers shoes? How would you sleep at night? When would you finally forget about it. Jesus Christ, that is so terrible.

But how can you kill someone with a fly swatter in one blow (and no, you can't use the handle)

Anyways, people hunt because it is fun to shoot a gun. Similar arguments could be made of why people like to race cars on city streets, or go paintballing?

You can do that with a gun even when you aren't hunting.
