I would buy one of those instead of a car... but that's not going to help me get to school considering it requires driving on 2 major roads. Fuel efficient cars cost an arm and a leg too... so there goes that option... There's no bus that can take me close enough to my school... meh... this topic makes my brain hurt...

It's 6.0 miles from home (well, close) to the Plaza, where I start my job...

Still too much for walking (and though a lot of, uh, less-than-average neighborhoods)... the bus does stop right outside, but getting to it requires crossing the "Never Ending Highway" that doesn't ever seem to get a red light on either end.

I usually just carpool with BMF and force him to adhere to my gas-saving tactics, like turning the car off when we're sitting idle in a parking lot.

I took his MPG from 17 to about 26 when I did that... I haven't gotten to check last time (and probably won't, he broke my test by partially refilling and we haven't had a chance to do it again yet), but I wouldn't be suprised if it was hovering around 20...

I don't drive much either- the T (public transportation) has a great deal for high school students, $20/month for bus, subway, and certain commuter rail zones. (Though without the discount to get everything including the commuter rail zones is a whopping $151/month, bus/subway only is $59/month) But it does lead to odd distortions, like it being easier to go to bookstores in downtown Boston than ones right in my hometown...

Other things include sticking to the speed limit. I was able to fit in 7 working days of gas (34-miles of driving per day) when driving at 65 mph. When driving at 80 mph, and getting to where I needed to go 2 minutes faster, I only had 3.5 working days of gas.

That would definitely be something I might drive. I don't understand why, but I do . If it gets good mileage, then I would.
