Build 5511 was released on the 4th and it seemed to suggest a release soon. RC2 Refresh for SP3 is already out on Microsoft's site.

So SP3 might not be too far off. Lot better than SP1 ever will be, it seems.

I wish the article talked more about SP3 and not the release date. Who cares?

The article it linked to just has the meat and none of the bullshit, if you'd rather have that.

From MS, there doesn't seem to be anything of "incredible value" outlined immediately in the description. Not bad, I guess, but after all the crap SP2 got...

Too bad it won't be available to us normal folk until April 29.

I haven't bothered installing any of the RCs myself, but I've heard only good things about it from those who have.

Hmm. Mine came with build 3244 slipstreamed, it seems.

I don't suppose I can install the final SP3 over a release candidate SP3, can I? Or does it even matter?

I think you can, actually, since I think it's possible to overwrite current beta builds with the RC2 refresh.

Should be no different with the final product...worst case scenario is you'll uninstall the beta SP3 build, roll back to SP2 and go up to SP3 Final.

For those interested, I DID upgrade to SP3 today.

Not an EXTENSIVE amount of help but there were a bunch of upgrades put in as well as some noticeable speed boost in loading pretty much everything.

The only negative I've had so far is having to uninstall and reinstall Winamp. It hung on loading. It was the only way to fix it that I found, so...thus far...that's the only downside that I've seen thus far.

Keep in mind, this comp didn't have updates past the original SP2.

If you had already done Windows Update fully prior to this update, you pretty much will feel little difference.
