So I have this big directory containing a large portion of my music collection. And then I have a hardlink to it in another directory. For those unfamiliar with the term, a hardlink is a second directory entry for the same file. Like having a copy except both actually point to the same data, so it's an automatic mirror image. Since the file has two directory entries, deleting one of them doesn't affect the other one and the file is still accessible until you delete both. At least that's how it's always worked before. I delete the second link and it claims the file is too big for the recycle bin and permanently deletes it instead. Go back to the first and sure enough... fucking empty. WTF. >: Had I not just backed that stuff up I'd be royally pissed. One of the main aspects of a hardlink is that when you delete one, the other one is still there. And it's because of stupid shit like this that I'm installing Linux, which ironically is part of the reason I deleted that link in the first place. ____________________ |
